Cavs To Activate Wagner And Shop Him 12/13 -
4:09 AM
Cavaliers reserve guard Dajuan Wagner is expected to be activated from the injured list in time for tonight's game against the Grizzlies.

Wagner was on the injured list for five games.

To make room for him on the 12-man active roster, rookie swingman Luke Jackson is expected to be placed on the IL.

League sources have indicated that the Cavaliers are shopping Wagner and center DeSagana Diop.

diop around 2.6 mil
wagner around 2.6 mil

should we go after diop? do we have anything we can give them?
moochie + $3mil + draft pick for diop?
or kurt for diop + wagner + pick?

Diop's value is at an all time low right now. If we can get him for like a 2nd round pick and cash, then why not.

Wagner we just don't need. He can't play backup PG, he is really a very undersized 2, and with as many guardsa as we have, and good guards mind you, there is no place for him in the rotation.

I'm not what the Cavs need exactly. They probably want to trade Newble and his long contract for a better SF, but we don't really have and SF's that can be traded to them as Penny and TT make way too much money.

And trading Ariza for either Diop or Wagner or for both is retarded.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

to me this is the PERFECT opportunity to move KT for a draft pick. KT is a great fit next to Big Z and LBJ. KT & Houston's #2 for Wagner and Diop and Cle 05 #1. Cle easily gets the best player as Diop and Wagner are a year away from being out of the league. It gives you 5 months to look at Diop as a legit center prospect or not. This has some money implication because its going to mean buying out Moochie to make a roster space, but I would do this.

I have no idea how this draft is going to be but having 2 #1's gives you better shot to move up and draft a guy like Warrik or a center.

Wow. I just can't see Cleveland doing that. They seem committed to Gooden and adding KT is going to complicate things there. Plus if they're looking to continue to build a team for the future with Lebron why would they give up a #1 now to add a guy who would only contribute in the short-term?

Well, Houston's #2 right now would be the 42nd pick. Cleveland's #1 would be the 23rd pick. Maybe that's a worthwhile trade down for them to get the best player in this trade. But you're right that Cavs don't exactly need Kurt. So, I don't think they'd do this, but it would be worth a try.

I have the opposite take, and I think the deal is a good one for Cleveland. To win in the playoffs you need tough defenders/rebounds. To make things easier for LeBron to operate, you need to unclog the lane. Kurt does that for you. having a rotation of Gooden/Z/KT would be nice (you can forget Traylor and Varejao is still young).

Cleveland is probably going to nab Redd in the offseason to really open things up, but Kurt would be worth it too.

same reason Denver got Kmart with Nenea and Camby there. KT/Gooden/Big Z is nice frontcourt rotation when you have a playmaker like Lebron. Maybe they can do much better than KT... depends on their opinion of him, but it looks like a good fit on paper, and they arent giving up much at all.

If we are going to trade Kurt for a draft pick why not trade him to either Houston or Dallas? Besides, these are the two places that he would love to play, we should grant him that wish for all of the great services that he has given us. Dallas has a lot of talents and most of all, they also have a lot of draft picks.

bottom line is he still gets killed by more athletic players and opposing PFs are shooting over 55% against us averaging 14 rebounds.

You have to look past KT being productive and see that we get beat there everynight. We arent winning a title with KT starting at PF unless we get Duncan to play center next to him. We need to continue to get younger and bigger. KT plays hard every night.. nobody will take that away. We need to improve the matchups at 3/4

I don't object to moving Kurt Thomas for someone of value. Diop and Wagner and a late first is nothing + nothing + nothing. What do three nothing's add up to?

don't forget the fact that he is hindering Sweetney development. You have to give a little to get a lot.

Forget both.....

Diop can block some shots but will catch a seizure just trying to make a simple jump hook.

Wagner is a guy I would have wanted last year before Marbs. Right now Knicks have Craw and that's all the Knicks need.

I believe 2009 is the earliest Dallas can trade a 1st rd pick becuas they traded 2 picks (which would probably be 2005 and 2007) to get Dampier.

Houston looks like a lottery team. I don't see any team giving up a potential lottery pick to get Kurt Thomas. Maybe Kurt would be enough to push them into the playoffs, though. They could really use some more depth. Right now it's just Yao, T-Mac, and Juwan Howard. Kurt could really help out.

Sweetney should be in the game when you are getting out-rebounded late in a game and the opponent shoots 30 free throws and you shoot 10 FTs. kurt is the reason the Knicks lost that game to Washington. they've lost so many games in the 4th quarter that they've lead throughout
because kurt plays in the 4th and not sweetney.

i know it's not all Kurt fault because our guards let everyone penetrate but it's just a bad mix! Our guards aren't going anywhere because they fit into Isiah's vision so Kurt's gotta go because he's on the wrong team. Just trade him for someone who can guard PF's. He doesn't have to be a spectacular defender but just keep up with the quicker PF's which includes every PF except Kurt virtually.

Can we be reminded that Diop and Wagner are really, really bad players and that's why Cleveland is looking to move them? They are busts who keep getting worse very day. Unless its like Moochie for Diop than let's get off this subject.

yes, wagner would be useless for us, he's a pure throw in to make salaries match.

diop is raw and can block shots. based on what aguirre has done with sweets and nazr, it's not a crazy thought to think he can't do the same with diop. he only had 2 years of ball before being drafted (in the lottery).

so look at it as kurt for a #1 and diop.

getting a #1 for kurt would be a coup. it's another chip to either use, trade for another future pick, or use in a trade for another player. we have sweets, jyd, vin to pick up the slack at the 4 and i don't think there's anybody here that wouldn't rather have sweets starting right now, not b/c he's a better player but b/c he's young and we need to see if he can start in this league.
