He was looking like the Milwaukee Vin on offense tonight. He was 3/3 with some excellent looking jumpers, and couple of times I thought he got fouled on post ups but they didn't call it. If he can put together a few more efforts like this that makes it even easier to trade KT or it even boosts Vin's value a little bit. Any other thoughts on Bakers performance?

I thought Baker played extrememly well in the first half, we actually had a presence in the low-post, I didnt understand why he didnt play at all in the second half.

Here is what I think of the Baker situation.

He is a post player, and so it Sweets. Of the 2, who would you rather give minutes to? Sweets.

If Baker could prove that he is not a siv on D, I think he would get minutes.

Baker's feet just don't move on defense. I don't know why. It looks like he is trying to react, but by the time his feet move, the guy he is guarding is already past him.

Why not try this lineup for a change:

Marb
Crawf or Houston
TT or JYD
Vinny
Nazr

the Wiz were killing us inside, but once Vinny and Sweets were in the game, they have actually slowed them down considerably. Some of you wodered why I criticised Lenny? it is simply because he makes stupid mistakes that have proven very costly to us. Moochie suprizingly played a pretty good game last night also. I am telling you folks, Kurt is the reason why we are so bad on defense.

If we would be taking Kurt out of the lineup, I would have to put in Sweetney ahead of Baker.

you are trying to convince us that Kurt is the root of the Knicks's defensive problems and Baker is the solution? Dude, get off the drugs. We already know you haven't seen too many Knicks games, and if you did, you would know that Vin Baker is half the defender TT is.

Vin played a couple minutes of good O. That's it for the season.

You are wrong, I never said to replace Kurt with Vinny. I always said to play Sweetney instead. However, there are instances when a team must go big on the court, especially if Vinny and Nazr are hitting their shots. Last night was a perfect situation. Vinny did a much better job than Kurt, because he attacked the basket and Haywood was forced to guard him. As a result, he ended up with a lot of fouls on him. See, I understand the game of basketball very well. When you shoot jumpers, you can't go to the line. We really don't need a jumpshooting PF, what we need is a guy that can inflict pains in the opponent's frontcourt.

Vin is the slowest footed bigman on the team...i don't want him getting any extended minutes...he's strictly an emergency option to use in case KT, Nazr or Sweetney get into early foul trouble...he may have some post game, but his deficiencies will outweigh his strengths if you play him too many minutes...like martin said, i'd rather have Sweetney getting burn to develop his game than Vin Baker...Sweetney gets few minutes as it is w/JYD coming off the bench ahead of him now...we don't need Vin stealing away his minutes too.

I thinkg it's all about machups. You can't post Sweetney against 7 foot guys who can just block him easily (Camby). You can post him very well against smaller bigs like, or bigs then arent such good shotblockers.

Also, you can't play Baker against athletic bigs, he is to slow. Against the Wiz, where Haywood is not all that athletic really, just big, Baker was a good fit.

Last night against the Nugs, Baker was a bad fit.

Lenny needs to utilize Baker when it is a good idea to so. He showed he can still play out there last time he played, and as for defense, thats timing, he needs to play a little to get better with his movement.

Sweetney should still be the first option of the bench for bigs though.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

I disagree with the ideal of using certain player mainly due to lineup. I do believe that when a team is hitting on all cylinders, the other team is forced to counter. Therefore, if Vinny is playing well like he did versus the Wiz, he should be granted enough playing time to do his things, same goes for the other guys. When he was on the court along with Sweetney, you could easily feel the momentum change. He had his shots going and most of all he was posting up Haywood whom collected a couple of fouls guarding Vinny. My question is this, why Lenny didn't go big in that game? He is always talking about going small, but never that he mentioned going big with Nazr at either PF or Center along with Vinny on the court.

Marb
Houston
JYD
Vinny
Nazr

I know that it is still early, and Lenny still has to learn his roster now that Houston is back, but sometimes you know what a coach's intentions are from little things that he does in the flow of the game. He should have milked Vinny and Houston while they had it going. enough with Kurt as our best defender.

Bad finger sprains take a VERY long time to heal. A day or two won't do anything. (It's not like he just jammed his finger and needs a few days.) When I had a bad pinkie sprain, it took 5 months. Some bad sprains take a year to get back to normal. Kurt's pinkie still isn't back to normal. (I know he had more than a sprain, though.) I wouldn't be surprised if Mike was affected for the rest of the season and had to play with his hand taped up for the rest of the season.
