Wolves Eye Ward

The Knicks and Timberwolves are discussing a deal that would send Charlie Ward to Minnesota for backup center Dean Garrett, according to a league source. The Wolves, who are looking for a point guard now that Terrell Brandon is out for the year, would have to add a player to the deal to make it work under the salary cap.

The deal makes sense for the Knicks on several fronts. It would add a big body and create playing time for Howard Eisley. Also, the Knicks would rid themselves of Ward's contract while Garrett will be a free agent this summer.

"If we can make a trade to improve the team we'll do that," said team president Scott Layden. "But we will not make a trade just to make a trade or make a change. We will not do that."

Personally, I think this definitly a trade we should do. Gives Eisley court-time, gives us cap-relief and would create less a jam at the 1 if we were to acquire Van Exel.
