How about timely scoring? :)

Also... If Houston spreading the court a little more will mean that everyone will have to work a little less hard to score--- meaning more energy for defense. Or something like that.

If you don't think Houston could help, you're just clueless or blindly pessimistic.
I love the subtly...

Houston will help us be more consistant. He can be a stabilizer for Craford whom we rely on for scoring. When Jamal is missing he keeps missing because we need him score. Houston will alleviate some of that.

Anyone that doesnt think Briggs isnt 100% right isnt watching. We are constantly letting teams back into games. We have a hard time getting stops late. To be a bigtime team you need 2 stud defenders on the floor. We barely have one in Jerome... maybe he was 5 years ago, but he's not now. Now he's just a hustle player. KT works very hard but please dont mistake effort for effectiveness. Look at the numbers, every night the other team's PF goes for 20/15 and shoots 55%.

In 2-3 years Ariza may be our stopper on the wing, but we need one in the post. Dalembert has the skills but is he available?

Sure; Houston doesn't address every single one of our needs. No one said he does. But as several people, including you, have discussed he addresses some very important needs on the team.

anytime you add a player like him he can help and fill a role but its not what we *need*

We need stops and to keep our opponents from getting any shot they want. Every game some player totally exploits us and we have no answer. Ok, you live with Garnett killing you but when you have absolutely no answer for Matt Bonner, Milt Palacio, Okafor, Cuttino Mobley, Steven Jackson, on and on.... Sure, some are good players but you have to be able to make adjustments. Lenny has nobody to go to. Jerome and Ariza are the best weapons he has. We have no stopper when Mobley is hitting every shot. The best we have is double high and let some scrub beat you with wide open 14 footers.

We have a personel issue... plain and simple. However I'm not worried because we are younger, better, more athletic. I wasnt expecting Isiah to sucessfully rebuild Layden's mess in one offseason, but we have a respectable start.

The Mavs won 63 games a couple years ago, but we dont have Dirk. My hope is we can get these guys playing well and market them for better fits moving forward.

Houston doesn't address our primary needs but he addresses many important secondary needs

he might help... you never know. I would just much rather a far less talented player like Bruce Bowen than Houston right now. Hopefully Allan can help push this group. He's a solid vet and a good heady player.

I will be rather shocked if Houston plays significant minutes and averages just 10 ppg or whatever you guys projected for him.

how is h2) going to get extensive minutes? the guy sounds like he doesnt even want to comeback right now, still sounds very shaky. i guess you could stick allan at the back up 2+3 to get him 30 minutes, but we will suffer even worse on the D. remember allan is 33 going on 34 and this knee problem really has never gone away. just dont expect huge things like 20 points and 38 minutes a night, because the odds are he wont be able to deliver it.

First lets see what level Houston is at when he comes back. And the only way we will know is when he starts playing and gets back in shape.

I agree a defensive stopper would make a huge difference for this team more so than Houston. But Houston will win us more games with his shooting than lose us any games with his lack of D. Sure Houston won't make any defensive stops. But we could take it back to both Magic & Bobcat games. The defense was horrible and probably couldn't get any worse if u had Houston in there or not. But the fact that we couldn't score in both of those games final 2 quarters is what really killed us. We had the lead in both games if we were able to continue to score even if we couldn't stop them than we would have won both games.

Houston doesn't even really need to be a big time scoring. All he needs to do is be enough of a threat to open up the D and allow Marbury to drive.

if he scores 15 from range, it will help, the spacing and bust the zones.

we may not still be able to get stops, but at least zones won't make us choke anymore.
try to zone when you have A 3Pts shooter like houston around. im laughing about it beforehand.

But that shouldn't matter since he addresses none of our needs, right?

at least it gives some people a brand new reason to whine about.

I don't understand the reasoning! Article claims Isiah doesn't
want him coming back in back-to-back games? WTF! He doesn't
have to play in both!

If anything it makes perfect sense for him to come back and
play some spot minutes in the second game to rest some of the
guys who are tired from the night before.

Sounds like BS to me.

They want to see how his knee will respond to the hard practices he has went threw in the last 2 days. Though I do agree take Houston off the IR and give him like 10mins or even 5 mins as he may be needed. Unless he plans to stay home again and train like he did vs Bobcats then thats understandable as a few hours working with a trainer would be better for him than 10mins in a game.

I do believe a Houston & TT for Carter & Rose might be considerd right now for IT.
