If we waived Clarkson pre 3/1 and we knew thru back channels his vet minimum deal would be claimed.

Could we use the cap relief to then sign another vet big for injury insurance to better balance out the roster?

Given we have Brunson/Jose/Josh/Deuce/Shamet/Mikal/Mo ahead of Clarkson at the 1-3 maybe we could swap him out for another front line player who can rebound or protect the rim or defend some 4/5’s.

Not sure who might be available or want to come here as a 3rd/4th stringer but Knicks could already have someone in mind.

Is above possible if Clarkson is claimed and new team assumes his salary?

We could waive him and sign someone mid March. He would need to be waived by March 1 to be eligible for another playoff roster.

Clarkson can be bought out. That's the route to clawing back cap space.

Technically he could be waived and picked up but FO would go the guaranteed route above.

I don't know. Not ready to give up on him. He is a scorer. Sometimes you need that in the playoffs.

If they were going to waive him they would have already. More than half way through the season he still looks out of place on the court. He’s just not a fit with this coach. I would jettison him and open the roster spot if there is a way to create the cap room to add another player before 3/1

Well - they could be waiting for someone to drop who they know will sign here and who they prefer over Clarkson before dropping him

I do tend to think the front office would want to do right by Clarkson given he wanted to be here and signed quickly for the vet min.

That's why I wonder if they might be working with him to somehow guarantee he goes where he wants but maybe waiting for right guy to become available.

Not sure outright waiver would get him where he wants (assuming it's not NY) but I guess a buyout where we save enough like Martin mentioned works.

I really wanted Clarkson but aside from 2 or 3 solid games early in season he's pretty much been a dud. Unreliable handling the ball, lost on D often and just a net zero or negative even when making buckets. A likable guy - if he stays I hope he has a few big moments down the stretch of the season.

He is a vet and he's unafraid so maybe that has more value than a replacement.

Clarkson was a big part of us winning the NBA cup this year. He is a proven scorer, keep him. You never know if you will need him in the playoffs. We have other guys who can play defense.

With no one hitting their shots, Clarkson should have gotten some burn last night

Of the available players who were either waived or not playing - who is the toughest? Even if he is over the hill I think we need more of this typein our locker room as Hart and Alvarado seem to be the only hard nosed players that will speak up when we play soft with little effort. Thinking a Taj Gibson type would help assuming there is not an available player that can still play.
