I wasnt able to watch the game but the stats that I saw that impressed me the most was the amount of TO they had,10 in 53minutes of action vs the TO caused Atlanta to create, 19.

Was this due to their defense or just mistakes on Atlanta's part?
Of course NaZr impressed me as well.

Well, Marbs had 6 steals, so there's six of em'. We didn't have very good defense tonight. We did cause some TO's on the few spurts we showed up on that end though.
Alot of Hawk mistakes.

i think the positive part of this story is that we still won. last yr, we would've lost that game.

At least we got a w though barely escaped a 2-12 team. I'll take the w anyday, though.

yep, a win is a win is a win...the bottom line is wins, i dont care if we give up 183 points just as long as we score 184 or more

This team is way to short, and we don't have solid defenders, so you can expext teams to shoot 48+% against us. The only defensive we have is steals, and chasing down loose balls.

IMO it's REAL important that these guys find ways to win and believe theyr'e gonna win. of course I'm not happy with giving up leads and not playing D but I'd continue to live with that if they continue to pull off the amazingly clutch wins. I feel a TON better after a win like last night's than I do after they've played a solid fundamental game but lost.

Agreed. NY played awful last night... They struggled against a weak zone with K Willis as the defensive stopper... They let Delk have a big game, they consistantly broke plays ...

And worst of all, they let Atlanta score 100+ for the first time this season... How will they ever be a good playoff team if they can't play defense?

yesterday was very positive I thought. Every team plays poorly on nights. Every team has bad shooting nights, sometimes its your main scorer, other times its your whole team. Good teams still find a way to win some of those games. Last few years we always found a way to lose them. Last night was positive because we didnt shoot well but still pressured the Hawks into enough turnovers to win. We attacked the basket when we needed points and hit some clutch shots.

Ugly win but those kinds of wins are the difference between 50 win teams and .500 teams.

Very good point. Although I love the W. The Knicks will have to prove tonight that they are worthy of the win last night. Perhaps our crowd will be able to push them defensively.

Normally what you say is true, but Atl is not a good team... They're not even average... Against a better team, NY would've lost.

It is funny, because against good teams, N.Y. normally play decent defense. For whatever reason, they always let down their guards against bad teams.

I 100% agree with fishmike on this point. It is a key trait for a team to devleop a clutch demeanor. PARTICULARLY in games where they've played like crap, sleepwalked, given up leads - all the stuff we did last night. To be able to say, OK, time to stop f'g around, there's 1 minute left and we're down 6, or there's 30 seconds left in OT and we're down 4 or whatever - and then to back it up! This is an amazing quality for a team to possess. The great teams have possessed this. The '04-'05 Knickds have a lot of deficiencies and they can continue to overcome a lot of them if they can continue to develop this trait. Steph and Craw seem to have it in abundance. Nazr, despite that foul, showed a lot of it last year with last second alley-oops and put-back stuffs. Houston has it. It's worth just watching to see if it continues to play out.

everyteam has those nights, if the Knicks win 48 games (heck we are on pace for 45 right now) nobody will remember or care that we played like crap in Nov against the Hawks and won on a late 3 from Jamal after a terrible shooting night.

everyone has those nights shooting... the Knicks or any good team should never have such a bad night on the defensive end.

The Knicks played well. What people have to realize is this defense is centered on getting steals and getting rebounds. They have no shot blocker and don't have great man to man stoppers. They will outscore their opposition by using steals and rebounds to get more shots, which they are doing by about 4 per game. They out-steal, out-rebound and force more turnovers than the opposition. These are all good defensive traits. If they can contest a few more shots, they'll be fine.

1- you're fooling yourself if you think the Knicks played well last night
2- Contesting shots is defense 101... and the Knicks failed miserably
