Bottom line we need a healthy Mitch back which will give our wings less run on their legs..

Thibs loves Mitch, see him playing with Kat in a big line-up (whether he starts or not); this will enable Hart, Bridges & OG to interchange with each other more often, playing slightly less mins, getting additional breathers.

If we do make a trade, it should not include Mitch!

I hope Mitch comes back good enough to be a difference maker. I wouldn’t move Mitch or Achiuwa unless it really improves the depth, which is unlikely. The best move probably remains moving Sims for a player on a minimum contract who can play some minutes as a backup wing in a pinch. Alec Burks, Javonte Green, or even Champagnie from Washington. Get someone like that then reassess in the offseason.

Trading Mitch would be a dumb idea especially now. Add him to this rotation and we are lethal defensively. He’s also under contract on a team friendly deal just one year left next season at $12 million

If they want to flip Sims for a 2nd go ahead

I read somewhere if we dump Sims for a future 2nd - doesn't that free up a little money and we could then sign TJ Warren? I get he's not the same TJ from the bubble but we are looking for bench scoring and someone that can create offensively (and losing Sims doesn't seem that bad a cost). If this is true why not just do this as it allows us to improve wing depth a bit while still keeping Mitch?

I say just wave Shamet and bring up TJ. Not saying Shamet sucks, but he's kind of repetitive. Even at his best.

I agree that TJ would just be better than Shamet at this point, and so might Okeke. If Shamet is not adding gravity / hitting 3's then he's not really providing a lot of value. He gives a representative effort, but at this size/frame that's not gonna yield a lot of impact.

Im sure the Knicks are floating that teams want Sims to see if they can get someone to bit on taking the salary for a 2nd rounder. Hopefully it happens, but that would certainly open up the 2nd apron space/roster spot for Warren/Okeke.

I’m hoping that Mitch will help the 2nd unit get more scoring opportunities, which will boost their numbers. Which will give Thibs an incentive to play his reserves more.

FWIW, for what Shamet is getting paid, I think he's bargain. Shoots pretty well, and his D is better than I expected, active and stays in front of his man. I have no problem keeping him. Not sure what TJ is bringing, I only saw him play for the Knicks once (preseason?) and it wasn't great.

And certainly its a change of pace. If you can do a offense/defense switch at center, I think that brings a lot of value. I don't think we're going to get that in one person as those types of players are MVP candidates.

Yup, the longer Mitch is out, the easier it is to forget that he’s an elite defender, and maybe makes us an elite lineup defensively, minus KAT. There will be situations where it’s all about stops, and Mitch on the court isn’t something other teams want to see.

Shamet has made 4 3 points in 14 games as a Knick. That is not gonna cut it for what his role is and what he was signed to do.

He’ll need at least another month to get the groove going I’d guess.

He does seem like he has spark and just good cohesiveness with the crew though

Im seeing shamet in small doses but to be in Thibs good graces you have to do more than hit shots.
He is coming along and his foot speed on defense is improved.
The shots? Yeah I'd like to see more but Im seeing his defense is being held accountable to and Thibs is making him a better player.
TJ? He can score but he also has to play the defense the right way if he is bought up.
As for Mitch being a savior? I'd lower my expectations. He has not played in a really long time. He will be foul prone, slow.
I doubt he is traded prior to the deadline.
Thus he will play but will need 20 games to get up to speed.

We need Mitch back so Thibs doesn’t keep rolling Kat for 40 minutes with a bone chip in his finger.

I have zero expectations of Mitch. He giveth and he taketh. And his free throws make my eyes bleed.

But we do need him to match up against centers like Embiid. Mitch can sit on our bench while Embiid sits on theirs.

Precious needs to start and let Hart return to the bench. Once Mitch comes back we have Deuce-Payne-Shamet-Hart-Huk-Mitch off the bench. No excuses for Thibs to play these ridiculous minutes when that is more than good enough.

Think the Knicks are playing it coy, as they should regarding Mitch until the 2/6 trade deadline.
A healthy Mitch is literally the last piece to a championship puzzle while throwing in an Okeke or Warren from G-League or a buyout guy. Thibs rotation is set and the only other player that will crack it is Mitch.
Bottom line we need a healthy Mitch back which will give our wings less run on their legs..
