So Rose got me my upgrade at PG. How I remember the many Franky threads. Good memories. JB has been incredible. Top in league. Thought IQ would be it but he may be destined for a Lou Williams like legacy. I preferred a taller PG but JB cannot do anything wrong right now!

Wanted an upgrade at SG. Grimes fans needed a reality check. Thought/think Divo was it but okay let’s see how much better Bridges is and if we can keep him at a decent price. Better defender thus far. Which I like. Even though Divo had a better longer contract, established chemistry and did a great job last year I am not bitter), let’s give the new Cat crew a chance.

Wanted Rose to move on from RJ and his shooting inconsistencies. He did. Got us a pricey Mr. Glass who when healthy can hit a corner three better than anyone and can shut down all who dare try to score against him. Legend has it. Despite the jokes, IF healthy, can’t argue we are a better defensive team with him.

We needed a stretch 5. Cuz this is the new fashion trend of the NBA. And we got to keep up with them Joneses. KAT fits the bill. Solid three point shooter and Curry like aspirations. Well, he definitely has the Curry like salary. Now can he match the Curry impact on winning? But I regress.

Trading my favorite player did get us that stretch 5 but left us with a void of a solid All Star PF.
Thinking Precious fills in nicely despite many, including myself, predicting Josh will get the nod. We all saw his many 46 plus last year and assume Thiba has an obsession. But is he enough? How does that affect the impact on the bench we had with him last year? And won’t post the meme of him bouncing off a big last year. And yes, we do play better with him on the floor.

So who is left out there that may be available?
I am sure there are many click bait blogs that can add several names.

Here is my thought . What if Rose had envisioned more of how Minny looked last year with Gobert? Minny had a great year. We have a Gobert type player in Mr. Robinson. (When healthy) And we all know how much Thiba likes his defense. Moving KAT to PF when MR is healthy would solve the upgrade need at PF, strengthen the bench with Precious, Hart, Deuce, Shamet, Payne/Kolek?
Or, do we leave our Seven foot SG at the 5 and trade Mitch for blog candidate number 1! Leaving a void again at backup C?

Just a thought. And another way to show my disapproval for letting Randle and Divo go!

All of this to say, you are still suffering the after-effects of us trading your fav player...

With that said, I don't think we need abother PF, we just need a Healthy Mitch back in the rotation. I love the versatility the Kat trade adss to this roster. We can match uo with teams llike the Celts, go 5-out and pull KP from the basket on the defensive end. Then against a team like Philly, we can go big with Kat at the 4 and let Mitch use his size and 6 fouls to slow down Embiid.

Until Mitch gets back, I think OG and Precious can hold down the 4 spot. And for those concerned about OG banging with PF's, keep in mind, the Davis brothers, Oak, Mahorn, and Kevin Willis types are extinct for the most part. Jayson Tatum, Paul George/Cam Martin, Evan Mobley, Siakiam are the new 4's.

Agree with most of this.
Point was that IF MR is back and healthy, we could have a lineup of
MR
KAT
OG
Bridges
JB.

Think that is tough defensively, not only at the wing but also at the rim.
You would still need a backup at C. Simms? Maybe
Backup at 4. Precious? Maybe.
However, If Knicks plan truly is to have KAT at 5, then Mitch may be flipped for a PF that may be versatile . Just feel that is an obvious hole if you just traded Randle.

I would be okay to wait and see. As I was prior to trade. But FO has shown they are going for it so having a couple of guys who normally don’t play PF seems short of what a team going for it would want. IMO

Thibs mentioned in one of his interviews, after the trade when asked about MR, that he likes that MR provides offensive rebounding that is needed and rim protection that he likes. Not sure that meant as a backup or alongside KAT.

Are you thinking , when MR is healthy, he will just be a back up?
If that is the case, who starts at 4? Which takes me back to concerns mentioned above.

Mitch is months away from when they think he will even make it back. And it’ll take him a couple months beyond that to get into game shape.

Mitch will only start if the Knicks meet Philly in the playoffs and not already traded.

While I do think that we will pair Mitch and Towns at some point, I think it will be used sparingly than the main starting lineup of choice. Towns gives the Knicks flexibility, but I really think that they traded for him to be the main starting Center and hopefully prolong Mitch’s health by using him wisely off the bench. We’ll see…

Think the three posts above help show why I started the thread.
Have an opening to some feeling like we have no voids after trade.
Logically, if we are talking chip run, you have to get an upgrade at PF.
Since a chip run is not with guys playing the 4 who historically have not done so.
Especially when not at the caliber of the better 4”s in our conference.

I was talking long term since that is the goal. Ie. Playoffs.
But yes, think you are making my point of need a better PF.
Short term, we also have a need for a backup C to step up.
Can Sims and Precious be that? Sure. I for one think they can do a nice job helping out.
If you talk playoffs, a chip team needs someone better than guys that have not been at that position.
But point of needing and upgrade at PF and question if putting KAT there is for the playoffs.
Yes, we can go small or do other fan coping ideas but to go against the likes of Tatum, George, Greek, we need an upgrade at PF.

Logically, if we are talking chip run, you have to get an upgrade at PF.
Since a chip run is not with guys playing the 4 who historically have not done so.
Especially when not at the caliber of the better 4”s in our conference.

Not sure what move you are suggesting can be made for a PF. Knicks roster appears pretty locked given the Apron restrictions...unless you are suggesting trading Deuce or JHart? Don't think Leon would do that. Precious can't be traded until January and not sure why another team would give up significant value for Mitch (given his injury history) until they see him back on the floor in form.

My guess is Thibs will flex/switch guys instead of locking them into traditional positions. Precious, OG, JHart and even KAT will play PF at different times. When/if Mitch comes back - KAT's minutes at PF will likely increase a bit while his minutes at canter may go down a bit. At that point with Precious getting reduced overall minutes.

Might not be a championship roster quite yet.
Its apparent preseason on paper its not a perfectly balanced roster.
Im not studying other teams to see if they are either regarding Depth.
82 games is a long season. Mitch will return. He could be trade asset. Precious could be also although he is needed.
Sims gets another look as does Huk. If or both perform Precious can stat at the PF

As said, Knicks roster is not prime for a trade as currently constructed without moving Deuce or Hart logically.
There will be injury. There will be opportunities. Next man up!!!

I mean, another name for this thread could be “is Josh Hart big enough to keep in the starting lineup in the playoffs”. Forget the regular season. He is fine. But come playoff time, will Brunson/Hart/Bridges/OG/Kat be big enough to make it out of the East? For me, depends on his shooting, though moving Bridges and OG to Sg/SF respectively would make be feel better.

Brunson/Payne/Kolek - Kolek will be grabbing those minutes soon.
Hart/McBride/Shamet - Slightyl undersized here across the board.
Bridges/ Dadiet - Shamet will be running here for a bit. Darien will be in GLeague for a while.
OG / Achiuwa / Sims - Namesake of this thread.
KAT / Robinson / Huk -

Assume we take our year to gel this year and focus on next being more “complete”. It often takes teams a little time to jive. I think finding a PF with Brunson/Bridges/OG/_____ /Towns is correctly on the radar.

I’m not insistent on a move. This team should be making moves to win, but being capped at the 2nd apron, it might be tough to add much.

I probably would switch Hart and McBride, but that assumes Hart is sticking at 31% from 3. If he can get himself up to 36%, I’d let it roll a bit.

NOP is unbalanced but talented.

Murray/McCollum/Ingram/Williamson/Jones. It’s just such an obvious trade for us and them.

Agree. But if you trade for Mitch you have to resign him at a price. What is his durability going forward?
Perhaps NOLA is thinking Kessler?

If we trade Mitch for a wing, are we not thin at the 5 also behind or next to KAT?
If Huk or sims steps up, we good.

So basically we roll with what we got until January and then perhaps it gets sorted out.
Mitch does nothing for NOLA until then at best.

As it stands now. Regular season we have enough to win 50+ games. OG & Precious are an above average PF combination. By end of the season & playoffs Mitch should be back freeing up Towns to slide to PF either as starter or rotational. Improving it from above average to very good, as all 3 players cover most variables and matchups.

Not saying I have a move. Said that I would leave that up to the bloggers. And to your point, which I agree with, we are pretty much restricted with our current cap room and trade asset pool. Point is that we have a void at PF and back up center after just trading for "final piece".

Do think that the current roster will be successful and win over 50 games. But our goal as fan base is not just that.

If you prefer to call it that then that is fine. But is basically what I am saying without bringing any light to the hole created by the recent trade. And perhaps better for those that did not acknowledge Randles worth at that position.

Look, it's not that we are not a really good team. We are. Or that KAT is not a very good player. He is. Or even that Bridges is not a better player than Divo. He may be. But we just shot our load with these two moves. Leaving holes is a concern for me. Not ****ting on the team or thinking this will be a cluster. Just that, if we all want to be a part of a chip celebration, we will need an upgrade at PF. Now, already know that will be hard via trade. As I always said about Randle, trades are sometimes needed and good players will be lost but the important thing is who are you getting back and does that player make you better and ultimately closer to a chip.

IMHO, we need an upgrade at PF if we are to go farther than last year. Now if we move KAT to 4 and MR is healthy, that is an upgrade. Comfortable with MR, KAT, OG, Bridges, JB with Precious, Shamet, Hart and Deuce coming off the bench against Bucks, Sixers and Boston. But that will depend on MR health which has not been something you can count on.

You are right. Unless Hart can shoot 36+ from 3. Then we are fine.

Brunson/Bridges/OG/ ____ / KAT is a top 10 at their position in every slot. Top 5 for Brunson and KAT.

1) If you loved Randle despite his inefficiency, than Brandon Ingram should be on your radar. Hart/Robinson/McBride with a little cap savvy (3rd team?) works. I’m not huge on Ingram, but only cause I think he is better than his shot selection same complaint I had on Randle.

2) Tari Eason is like Hart with positional size. I’d pry that loose in a heartbeat. Dude is all over the place.

3) JJJ is like the Mikal Bridges of PFs. Great size and wingspan. Asked to do too much in offense in Memphis. Not sure how he and Edey fit.

4) Jonathan Isaac. Orlando is just stacking bigs. He is a punishing defender. Mediocre offense.

5) Herb Jones. Versatile 3&D. Perhaps a little undersized at PF but NOP is running him at center. Seems like a no brainer trade here. Huk showed me enough in 2 preseason games for me to pull this trigger.

Fact is, there are options. This year is tight but I think we can make a real run on Boston.

So we have a top 10 at those positions mentioned, which may be debatable, (there are a lot of good wings in the NBA), but we have a hole at 4? We agree on hole at 4 then?

I liked Randle for his value, 20/10 production, physicality, wanting to play here and All Start/ MVP type years. You disliked him because of his inefficiency? Compared to who? But okay.
And btw, you keep making this about Randle.
Points were that we just traded for our 'final pieces". Yet we still have a hole. And as you said yourself, we are set cap wise.
So only possible upgrade is to move KAT to 4. Unless we can flip Mitch for a young PF that may break out.
As of now, we have to hope Hart has an incredible year, OG and MR stay healthy, Sims or someone else steps up as backup C.
Can we do it, absolutely. Hoping we do. But that does not take away from the reality that we may be PF short of winning a chip.

Do have confidence that Rose may have the same view and has a plan in place.

All that being said, will be interesting seeing and rooting for guys mentioned to step up. Will also be interesting to see how this gets worked out if I am right and we are short of our goal. Regardless, it will be fun watching what I think will be a deep run team.
