Compare KAT to Ewing..........

https://basketball.realgm.com/player/Karl-Anthony-Towns/Comparison/39311/Patrick-Ewing/1297

This is complicated. But not really.
Ewing started at age 22 and was fist seen as a Defensive juggernaut but his career changed as his body matured. He became a scorer.
Patrick was not in the three ball era.

Both were top picks in their draft and were ROY.

My only comps are both were not the best of their generation. Ewing did make 1st team All NBA once and was 6x 2nd. Kat has KAT has Jokic, BAM and Embiid. Ewing was in the era of the big man and had young shag, older but effective Moses Malone (still an Allstar), David Robinson (in prime, Shorter career) and Hakeem to contend with. on a lessor scale he had to battle Mourning, Mutumbo, Daughtry and Smith. Ewing is in the Top 100 of all time, HOF, etc from an era that produced the big man!! Testament to his greatness sometimes overlooked.

Interesting rebounding stats. KAT was strong at 12per where Ewing was at 8 his first few seasons. they flipped flopped as KAT has declined where Ewings improved.

KAT has 3 year advantage vs. Ewing and maybe YOS is a fairer comparison?

KAT injuries, Covid issues, and his personality gives him a "Soft" reputation. He is a good guy!!! Ewing was far more guarded coming from Thompsons protections at Georgetown and faced a lot of heat in NYC and hostilities from media and fans at times.

With 9 years under his belt in Minny he will likely never run up stats as a knick unless he can play 7-8 more years which is unlikely.

This is as much about looking at Ewings stats and his brilliant career and just how different he is from KAT. Ewing HOF and career remains solid as he is top 100 of all time!!!!

This is Brunsons team while Ewing was the alpha on his teams. Glad the big fella is back in honorarium role and hopefully enjoy that ride down the canyon of heroes in a car with other knick greats also waiving!!!

Good luck to KAT and hope he can rise to the expectation, win a chip, and finish a career to the HOF!!! My hope is that he is listed with Willis and Ewing as Knick Great big men. KAT's path given his age is to win a championship!!

I've always thought Ewing would shine in this era of 5-out, we would have been able to do it IMHO.

I don't know KAT very well but it seems like his style of game could very well be an Al Horford length career.

Im trying to learn more about KAT and find were the accolades come from let alone his max deal. Like many I dismissed him as a "Minny loser" but, over the last year looked a bit more as the logic of him to knicks loomed large in my mind.

Ewing as a three ball threat? Entirely possible. Might have been a better passer also outside the low post.
Rik Smith would have thrived in this era, as would Pau Gasol.
I have said this before but if Ralph Sampson came out at age 19 and they did not force him in the low post his back might have held up and "Wemby" would be compared only to him. Sampson had range and a handle. At 7'4 he was slight and the NBA was not evolved to put him at the 4.

Ewing in the era of one and done? Thats a big more involved to consider. He was very raw early on.

Ewing's game changed early on his career because his knees were wrecked. He wasnt as mobile a player as he was at Georgetown. Fewer post-ups close to the rim. Focused more on outside shooting, that running jumper near the top of the key.

Kat also got away from his post game, driving as he got older, injuries probably played a part in that as well. But I think KAT has enough left in the tank to be a more versatile player again in NY. We saw glimpses of it in the first preseason game. Would be great if we saw him play a little more with his back to the basket as well. Give the defense more to worry about, more time and effort to game plan.

I attribute that to his first two years playing with Bill Cartwright at 'power forward' and the other two years playing under Rick Pitino's run and gun style
