I think at least for the time being Grimes’ performance shows just how big a part of the game mentality is. He showed flashes, has the tools - as did Frank and Knox to a lesser extent - but seems to have caved in to regression for whatever reasons. Sad to say really and I hope for all those guys.

He came into the year thinking in year 3 there would be an expanded role ready for him, but it was the same group so not really possible. I know he may have been a bit frustrated that Donte was signed but Donte was never supposed to take his role. And ironically when the Knicks traded for OG the opportunity for an expanded role was there, but he had already played himself out of that opportunity. He should have never been traded if things had gone the way it was expected. The lineup right now should be Brunson, grimes, OG, Randle and Hartenstein with Achiuwa, Donte, Hart and Deuce off the bench with OG playing with the bench as the backup 4. It looks so perfect on paper had grimes not got frustrated and just trusted the process.

I don't care that he complained. Showed spunk.
The game never slowed down for him. Finishing a the rim was problematic at times.
Deuce got ready and made the jump. He fits the mold.
Bojan looks out of synch with this team thus far.
Isiah Hart the only euro on this team doing well?
OG's reverse dunk was awesome last night!

Lots of young players flash big stuff early and then fizzle out for whatever reason. Shump was another one who looked like a potential star in the making in his early days.

its the weight of expectations and being able to catch defenses off guard a bit, I think Grimes came in with little to no expectations but as the expectations grew he got worse.

Shumps highest scoring season was his rookie season.

Grimes was starting to remind me more and more of Dotson.

but all that being said, we might as well have kept him. Trading him and 2 seconds for another Fournier just seems like wasting assets.

IMO we are asking too much of DDV, I'm not convinced he's a starter. he's undersized and streaky, probably best suited for 24-26mpg off the bench. He's really wearing down now playing starter minutes.

Has gone from being the next Klay to being the next Dotson in a span of 12 months. Life is cruel. So are expectations.

Yea I also think early years for young players everything is still such a wild card. First round picks usually get unearned minutes in their first couple seasons which can lead them to having big games and stuff like that. Fans latch onto "flashes" trying to project what kind of player they can be. In the NBA anyone can put up stats on bad teams, so it takes time to judge a players impact. As time goes on they are no longer the darling 1st rounder and coach might make decisions more focused on winning vs the rookie's development and those players get de-prioritized and it turns out they were never that good at all.

Well for one day...

Notwithstanding Grimes doing nothing for the Pistons - so far - If Bogs and Burks contribute to a few wins then perhaps it was an adult trade.

Honestly last night shows the bar these guys need to cross to made a big impact is pretty low. Just shoot a reasonable percentage and make some momentous buckets. The bench unit does not need them to do that much to help in a big way. Let's hope last night was the start of something sustainable for these guys.

Yeah, those dividends have a long time to come to fruition

Fournier for the time being significantly the best part of the trade for Detroit.

Both teams are worse for the trade. We’re less worse. We win!

Very possible we're down 0-2 without the trade, assuming Grimes misses the series or plays at the same level he had been.

This is now 2 playoff games we don't win without him. People will still judge our next move too early the next time we make one.

Regardless if Grimes was healthy or not - he would not be getting minutes over Hart, DDV, Brunson, McBride.
