How about this whack trade idea: Cleveland (Grimes, Dorian Finney-Smith, picks), Brooklyn (Donovan), Knicks (Mikal)

Cleveland gets Grimes, Dorian Finney-Smith, Fournier, 2025 Milwaukee pick (they don't have one for 2025), other NY picks.

Brooklyn get Donovan to build around, 2024 Mavs/Knicks pick (they don't have one this draft).

Knicks gets Mikal and a lot of Villanova joy. DDV moves to bench unit.

Donovan has to instigate this trade. If Cleveland waits until this coming 2024 summer to trade DM, they will have a TON less leverage to ask for what they want cause Donovan will be dictating his trade request as he would be in the last year of his contract (just as Siakam was).

Donovan gets his NY team but he obviously needs to want to be a centerpiece to build around knowing the team will be kinda crappy for a bit.

Brooklyn get a build-around guy, Mikal is just not that type of person.

There's this performer named Diana Emily that's gotten good reviews from Knicks beat writer Fred Katz. You should look her up. I mean she's virtual, but you'd have better shot at meeting her than Mikal Bridges has of being a Knick in the immediate future.

My trade idea is we trade Grimes for Tari Eason. We trade Evan and 4 first for Bridges, 2 frps for Murray or 1 frp for Brogdon, or someone we haven't discussed.

I think Donovan for Mikal straight up should be good enough for Brooklyn. Cleveland would be the one to take all the draft capital available out of the deal. They would want the draft capital that would allow they to flip that for a stud long term piece that won't bolt on them.

Cavs are playing like the best team in the NBA right now while missing 2 of their best players, hard to envision them trading Donovan right now. They might be pressured into a "walk" situation based on how good he's playing, ala Kawhi in Toronto.

FO and ownership have a very hard decision to make and they’ve handled it well.

They also lose most of their trade leverage soon and then it shifts to Donovan’s camp this summer.

You want a wack trade proposal ? Fornier, Grimes, picks and Simms for Burks and Bogdovic. Bogdovic to back up the 4,3 and Burks the 1,2, 3. I don't think this is a bad trade. You could maybe argue on how many picks to send out- but this positions us to win it all this year and maybe keeps that window open another year or two which is maybe all you can ask.
