His jersey don't hang on the rafters and save a few games. The team was not doing much other than winning one playoff series. He had a great year.
He could carry the team and did for one great season.
He came here in his prime to much celebration.
RJ is 23, has yet to reach his prime.
Melo is and will be the better player. But talking smack about a good kid who gave nobody trouble and worked hard is tacky.
Not evil, his comment not make Melo a bad person, but he is not the face of the knicks. If you jersey not hanging in the rafters, you can't talk.
I never heard any retired jersey knicks talk like he just did.
Not going to argue that RJ was or was not "exciting". He was not. But neither was a lot of other guys.
Brunson is pretty bland a personality also. So what. He gets the job done.

They paid you, you scored a lot of points, it was good, then you asked out. Did you win a chip? An MVP?

Melo had a brilliant career in Denver and NY but it not a brilliant “Denver career” or “Knick career”. It was melo in a uniform having a brilliant HOF career. He is not like many others and I don’t fault him for that, but I won’t put him on a pedestal and perhaps its why his uniform is not retired. He put himself above?

Lebron was about winning and perhaps he ****ed over teams but he won a chip with three teams. Lebron comes for Lebron reasons, but once there he might be “LeGM” but he took care of his body, his craft, and three banners in three cities!

Melo is and deserving of first ballot HOF. I won’t hate on him forever but I just hope he would take the gracious approach to be content with his career and maybe some shortfalls but still able to compliment others. I was enjoying recent Melo in retirement showing up to knick games and being a dad.

Dan Issel had a storied career, was GM, coach and I get that.
David Thompson? He as incredible and they did go to ABA finals, but he was traded soon after.
Alex English was 8 time Allstar, 11 years and true HOF.

I can see where Melo sees himself over those guys but they were "beloved" and did not ask out. That might be the big intangible.
In NY, they don't retire many numbers unless your Ewing or have a chip.

I thought Melo’s description was accurate but the comments were somewhat nasty.

Makes me think maybe he felt disrespected by RJ for some reason but also think Melo is tool.

At the end of the day winning is what matters.
Melo's career speaks for itself. His is done.
I don't blame him for the lack of success . My biggest gripe if any was he resigned here which I was good with, said he'd "Sacrifice" for the triangle. His physical decline and that converged badly. Phil wrongly thought Melo could be the point forward for the triangle but Melo gave it 1/3rd of a season. A lot of things went wrong and plenty of blame to go around. Its as Phils job and his legacy on the line as an exec. It failed. Melo succeeded statistically
