This unretricted free agent seems to make sense to me. Blake Griffin. Gotta give credit to a poster on FB.
He would be the perfect fit to backup Julius Randle. He is veteran enough to realize he isn't going to get big time minutes. Strong enough to bring some muscle to the team and on a good night may still be a rim runner like Obi.

Noah Vonleh is still out there. I also wouldn't mind taking a swing at Trendon Watford. I can say this now since Obi is no longer on the team, but Watford gave it to Obi in the SL championship game last season. Also rooting for Knight, but I have seen nothing to convince me he can consistently defend fours in the NBA. As for Blake, regardless of how much he has in the tank, it's not enought to cover the Nets stench he has on him.

y'all overlooking the obvious Taj Gibson reunion. We are holding the last spot through training camp but he is our guy if no-one shows out

Yuck - not my cup of tea. Would rather just go small vs Griffin.

More sense than Lance Stephenson I suppose. Rather go young and hungry than old and cooked.

As long as we're realistic about what "it" is, I agree. He's definitely capable of filling the 12-15 mpg backup role, although I'd like to see Sims get some consideration. If he's OK without guaranteed minutes (wasn't that why he left for Washington?), bring him back!

I think losing DRose's presence in the locker room is a bigger hit than we've acknowledged. Taj's leadership would be very much welcomed.

The thing I like about Jericho Sims is his footwork. He closes out and stays in front of his man incredibly well for a big man. With IQ, DDV, jHart and iHart next to him, I think he is a fine candidate for 15 mins per game. I like his pairing with iHart a lot.

Feels like a thread from ten years ago

I hope we find a player who will be allowed to challenge Jules for minutes. Someone who will be able to step in if Randle gets hurt. At this stage in his career its more likely.

I don't want anyone for an every night Obi role. If we do that, one of our wings is going to be sacrificed. I'd rather go small and absorb those minutes with Hart/RJ. If we get someone it should be an emergency player who is fine riding the bench most nights. Blake might actually make some sense. I'd be fine just finding a good G-League guy or whatever as that player as well. And surprisingly enough the Jericho-at-PF rotations held their own for the most part whenever Thibs used it. Force Thibs to experiment with some 1-4 small ball with a big 5 man is what I would like to see.

Brunson / IQ
Grimes / DD / IQ
RJ / Hart / Grimes
Randle / Hart / RJ
Mitch / iHart

That's the 9 man rotation / positional placements I would like us to stick to.

jHart is 6'4. Yeah, he can play tenacious D, but he is going to have problems with larger PFs. Randle is in foul trouble against Giannis and you are throwing Hart at him? They need to have some depth there. Its a hole.

Yep. After that it’s depth. Next in line - Sims, Deuce - and Robey? Knight?

i had the same thoughts and if we are worried about those big starters who may be on the court with the second units, well Sims is just sitting there.

Jimmy Butler is 6'7 he played 70% of the 22 playoff games at PF, RJ is 6'6, and Thibs already used him at PF with the second unit and left Obi on the bench.

Roby is 6'8 can't really see him covering Giannis, actually not many can.

Most cases thibs will figure this out, Bobby Portis played 81% at PF, Giannis played 59% at PF and 41% at Center, so obviously on the court together. We can role with a Ihart and Sims and be fine for those minutes. Giannis also averaged 32m during the reg season so safe to assume Randle will get the bulk of the min on him.

Or you use the vet min and get Taj for those situations if Thibs feels Simms isn't up to that PF role?

I think Taj is a great answer, he's loved, will be a player/coach, great relationship with Thibs and the team, and now has a nice corner shot and won't complain if not playing.

Taj is like some miracle product you buy on TV.
Can play 2 positions, mentor, and be the community guy!

Maybe we bring him back? Maybe he becomes a coach at some point? Or just chills with his son going forward.
Does every team need a mentor? Seems our Core of Randle, the Villinova guys, and coaches can handle it on and off the court. The team is still young but got some years on them now.

Jericho gonna contribute his 6 fouls too.

I think it's fine to get someone on the bench for extreme scenarios but not for an every night role. Who are you cutting out or down significantly if you get an everynight 4 man?

In general, we have a hole in the roster in terms of guys who can guard Tatum, Giannis, Butler. It's why I liked Paul George and why I like OG. Those are the teams we should be thinking about matching up against in the playoffs. But that won't be solved with a vet min 12 min guy anyway. I think we are better off going small and if you want to get an emergency guy on the bench I'm fine with that too. No one else shies away from playing small off the bench besides NYK. Also when you play small you can shade and trap more as needed.

Blake Griffin actually isn't a bad suggestion, as a guy who will ride the pine most nights and be OK with that, but can be useful when Randle gets injured or in early foul trouble and we need a prototypical 4 man.
