Knicks reason: MurphyIII & Harris are perfect fits for the roster currently constructed. That Donte, Hart, Murphy trio would cause HAVOC on the perimeter. Tobias skill set for the 3/4 either as starter or off the bench would be very very much needed. Both high % shooters from the field and ft which is much needed at those 3/4 slots.

Philly reason: They land Brandon Ingram whose 25 and just entering his prime. Great piece to pair next to Embiid. They want to preserve cap space to net a big 3 next yr. But they would be able to secure one of those immediately at a cheaper salary cost than what stars will go for as FAs next offseason. He makes less than Harris currently for example.

Pelicans reason: They are committed to Zion so why not obtain one of his close friends since he apparently has no relationship with his teammates in NO. Swapping MurphyIII for IQ seems like sound move for both squads since Pelicans have depth at forward but lack the quality at PG outside of CJ. The combination of IQ,CJ,RJ,Jones is a nice rotation along the perimeter.

Harris obviously would be retained. The flexibility he offers in skill set at 3/4, starter or bench, 3rd scorer among Brunson and Randle or featured scorer in the 2nd unit is very hard to obtain. The combination of role players like Donte, Hart, MurphyIII, Harris would be what great teams are made of.

Not to mention MurphyIII potential is also pretty good. WS48=150. Vorp=2.3 TS%60. ORTG=128 DRTG-114. Those are really really good metrics. Especially for a 2nd yr player.

Right and a future first. One step beyond the players though, and I have no idea if this was the intention of the trade, is that I think it would give the Knicks substantial cap space in 2025.

The pick is pretty much a wash due to us obtaining one from Philly. All in all your swapping IQ for Murphy (who is cheaper than OG) and RJ for Harris. RJ is way younger so there is the sting of that. But what Harris provides is more needed the way the roster is constructed. He fills glaring holes at the 3/4 spot with high quality depth.

Yeah, this would really depend on how high you are on Murphy.

NO does have a ton of overlap between SG/SF in Murphy, BI, Herb Jones, McCullum, Dyson Daniels, draftee Hawkins with a giant caveat that Zion is always hurt and some of those guys can play the PF minutes.

Something definitely needs to give.

Imo Thibs would have a field day with those pieces. The defensive versatility and spacing would be immaculate. The lineups with Murphy & Harris spacing the floor at the forward spots for Mitch to own the paint. Smaller defensive switching lineups among multiple options with Donte, Hart, Murphy, Harris, Randle, Mitch. Or imposing pure size on teams with again multiple options between Hart or Murphy at the 2, Harris, Randle, Mitch or Hartenstein. Overall efficiency of the team would take pretty sizable increase. Brunson, Hart, Murphy, Harris are all around the 48-37-80 percentages with low turn over rates. All offsets and compliments to Randle's game.
