Trying to figure out the context of going 27-13 for 2024.
40 games, so just about half season. Mitch played 1 game, OG 14, Randle 12. Brunson, iHart miss 5 games. https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/advanced?sort=W&dir=-1&DateTo=01%2F17%2F2024 Pretty much tied for #1 in Defensive Efficiency. #12 for Offensive Efficiency. #2 Net. #4 in record. #4 in record for half season while missing Mitch and more than half time without OG, Randle. Brunson, DD, Josh, McBride are full time players on both ends. Josh doesnt have the shot the other 3 have, but his rebounding and ability to advance the ball with the GTFO of the way Im going to rack is huge. All these guys can score, attack off the dribble, facilitate offense and are dedicated to stops on the other end. Any of these 4 can and will light you up and hound you on the other end. What they do night after night is just so Thibs. Now he's got them starting with OG/Jules out. My god when we get those guys back/healthy "winning is more fun... then fun is fun" -Thibs

YES we miss his talent, scoring and creation but we are playing so unselfishly (limited ball stopping) and everyone on a string defensively. Julius isn’t conducive to the above - he’s a different animal and it will be very interesting to see how (if) he plays upon returning and how we look as a team. Can’t live with him (sometimes) and can’t live without him. |

On paper no question Julius' talents make us better. Unfortunately even playing hurt his minutes and attempts are very very rarely influenced by in-game context. last year when he was limited or out I thought one of the benefits was that the team had the option of sitting Obi and going with a wing-heavy front line that played better defense. So far Randle's all-NBA status doesn't let you do that. He gets 35 and 18 shots regardless of context. Now they have OG. I do not doubt that there will be stretches where OG at the 4 will be a better option IMO. I doubt Randle plays 26 or 28 minutes instead of 36 in these games. We will see what Randle brings. it seems like it could be really good or bad. He is not a plug-and-play guy. blending him so quickly without a big impact one way or the other seems tricky |
