from the postgame quotes on the Knicks website

Nazr Mohammed
On defending Yao: Yao is a great player. He is huge, and I really had to work to guard him.

On his play: I'm feeling pretty good, and I'm getting my energy back after fasting for Ramadan. I didn't want to use that as an excuse, but I wasn't as strong as I wanted to be.

On the win: "It's huge for us, and we need to keep our morale high. This game was huge, and I hope this jump starts us and we win tomorrow.

i was surprised to hear about the fast, was that at least part of hte reason he underperformed in teh preseason? i respect him for being religious, but also for not whining about it to the press. he played through, and hopefully his numbers in more recent games will be closer to how he does on the season.

i also want to say i thought he did an awesome job on yao in the second half. first half, well, that got kind of ugly. but yao got locked down in the second half, he was stuck shooting fadeaways even with an 8" height advantage over nazr. the one play where yao got position inside and jsut flipped it in, the TNT analysts actually blamed that on TT getting in nazr's way and not helping or communicating! nazr was also rock solid on the boards despite his height disadvantage. he'll never be a good help defender, but in the post he can hold his ground and contest his man's shots. i thought he did a great job in the second half.

i really like Nazr as a person from what little i can tell from watching him play...he seems to be a great guy & teammate, & i feel bad for him when Marbury & others get on his case...but he deserves it because he just loses focus on defense all too often & misses too many rotation assignments on help D as well as getting beaten by his man 1 on 1 & getting into foul woes...last night was no exception...like you said, he played a great game on the boards & was hustling, but he still is not a good instinctual defender, & probably never will be.

Last night, Marburry chewed him out for missing a couple of assignments. I totally agree with Marburry, that is what a leader must do.

That was pretty interesting, and I have to admit, Nazr is making me a fan. If we get our new C at some point, I hope we keep Nazr as backup.

Everyone over the past few game has had those horrible moments on the floor, too often. Only guy who may be exempt from it is Kurt.

i'm actually liking the way nazr's been playing the past couple of games. rebounding well, going up strong on EVERY play, and hustling. that's all i can ask from someone w/limited talent.

He's been doing some really good things the last three days.....he's been rebounding and scoring off of rebounds and getting out on the break. That's what he needs to do.

This is what Isiah saw in him.

That's what I see in him at least. He's finally getting the minutes and he is doing his thing.

Go Nazr!!!

If we get Curry and Nazr isn't part of the deal, I wouldn't mind seeing Nazzy get a lot of time at PF. He's been grabbing a ton of boards and getting to the lone lately.

if you get Curry, you will need someone who can defend & rebound...KT is our best rebounder/defender...& his midrange pick & roll game will go well w/Curry's inside game...Nazr would be a solid backup at C & i would play JYD alot more minutes at SF & PF

The thing I liked hearing during the pregame from Nazr, he stressed how much of a team effort that Houston game was. Kurt was excellent keeping us in the game. Penny hitting some big 3s to get us back in it. Marbury with 18/10. Crawford, of course with the shot. Nazr didn't didn't mention himself with 12 points/17 boards.

If the dude's fasting from dawn to dusk (that means no water too i hear) and not slacking in training he gets my respect.

With the way Nazr has been playing and from this thread you can see that he is a good character player, would you still trade him for Curry? He is impressing me with his agressiveness and his willingness to work. His bbal IQ is still questionable but he seems to be learning from his mistakes.

A double-double from Nazr every night doesn't seem to be that far fetched nowadays.

What about Naser for Chandler??? I read earlier that Chicago may consider trading Chandler to Denver for Nene. Better yet, what about Naser and an expiring contract for Nene and a bad contract???

Chandler is always hurt.

Denver needs a shooting guard. The only way we get Nene from Kiki is by giving Jamal.
