According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Knicks have “expressed interest” in swinging a trade for Hart, the Blazers’ starting small forward. The Knicks are currently starting Quentin Grimes and RJ Barrett on the wing, but this signifies that the Knicks are definitely looking to improve their wing depth.

Josh Hart’s best asset remains his elite ability to rebound from the wing, as seen in his career-best 8.2 rebounds per game tally this season. Moreover, his contract, which pays him $12.96 million this year, makes him a relatively inexpensive asset to nab should the Blazers actually decide to trade him away.

It’s unclear why the Blazers would choose to deal away Hart, even amid interest from the Knicks. The Blazers are not completely out of the playoff hunt just yet, and Hart will play a huge part in their quest to remain competitive, which is a must if they were to maximize the remaining elite years of Damian Lillard’s career.

he's good and would fit in but I dont have anyone I see him taking minutes from. If we make a bigger trade where we lose IQ/Grimes/RJ than at worst Hart is a nice fill in. If Mitch is close to coming back Hart would be a better than Obi behind Randle off the bench, but with Mitch still a I'm hesitant to lose any size, although Hart is a much better rebounder than Obi

Hart was on the Nova team that won a title w/ Brunson. He's a high IQ blue collar player. I would like him but not at the expense of playing our young guys. Hart isnt helping us win a title. We need to develop IQ/Grimes/RJ and see what we have there

Yeah, we need more size. Hart is tough for his size, but he doesn't really address the glaring defensive hole in the roster, which is tweener/combo forward. Plus he has a player option for $13M on his deal after this season. If he opts out, it could be a problem.

It does make you wonder what the FO has planned for RJ if this deal gets done. Being a former teammate of Brunson is an added bonus.

As a backup to RJ, Id be in favor of it. Big fan of Obi as well, but he's another player I believe
isnt going to elevate his game in his current role.

Hart is kind of a strange player- 6'4", but rebounding among his best attributes, and he will play D, move the ball and make some 3s. Similar idea to getting a guy like Caruso. What's the right cost? Reddish + picks?

Portland is not good. They have no frontcourt size/toughness. They have backcourt firepower and a ton, but literally a punching bag up front

This is one of the guys I’ve been hoping we might get.

He is tremendously unselfish (maybe to a fault) - great ball mover, cutter, will guard above his size with really good strength. I like Hart over Caruso because there is more offense with Hart imo. Also very good rebounder and tough.

The Brunson/Nove/Archie connection would be another great chemistry, locker room and toughness add.

He could start if needed at the 2 or 3. He could be SF off bench and maybe do more scoring off our bench.

Are Hart's rebounding numbers inflated because the team otherwise lacks size.

You need to take a look at those rebounds and not just the stats.

Celts used to be awesome at team rebounding -- most guys focus on boxing out, let the one guy with a mismatch be responsible for the board

all that said, he seems like a smart reliable player. would come down to price

He's really good, but he's a role player. So who's minutes are you taking here? He would 100% make us better taking McBride or even Obi's minutes right now because Hart is much better NBA player than those guys but that's really short sighted. Like what does that earn us?

Now if someone like Brandon Ingram shook free and we took a shot at it and it cost us RJ/IQ and picks then Hart would be a GREAT addition. Obviously a wild hypothetical but I dont see how adding Hart to this current mix helps us in the long run.

Honestly he could take minutes from Toppin with RJ playing the 4 with the bench squad. Hart is a better rebounder and defender than Toppin despite his size so that would factor in. He could also take both Toppin and deuces minutes and we see more of an 8-man rotation.

I like hart a lot although I wish he was a more consistent 3pt shooter. But he does a lot of things and provides lineup flexibility as you discuss.

Wonder if they plan to re-sign him.

Have to think this otherwise why we use a pick to get him?
He can opt in for 12 mil.

This is a weaker FA class. Might make sense for him to opt out. One rumor is that was part of the reason Portland wanted to move him in the first place.

Not taking into account contract options and lengths I like this trade. No other team wanted to take protected picks for stars so we use them to upgrade the roster.
