^^^ those stats are troubling and not surprising. For 3 quarters they move the ball; in the 4th we tighten up. We have only one clutch player and the opponents know it

We need Grimes and/or IQ to start hitting some shots. I think they have it in them. RJ and Randle are unreliable in the clutch

Someone help me quantify how it's meaningful in a depthful way. The stats: https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/advanced?Period=4&dir=D&sort=OFF_RATING

Milwaukee is 27th. GS is 26th. Knicks are 24th. Miami is 23rd. Alt is 22. Denver 20th.

Some of those teams have REALLY good closers on their team, like best in the league. I'd say they are also pretty pretty experienced teams.

Knicks reportedly have a coach who can't coach offense but it seems like for 3 quarters they are "good to elite".

Knicks a young team. It's shocking they aren't an elite offensive team for 4 quarters?

i think the difference is some teams will slow down with a lead but still hold the lead and win, and then the knicks forget they're supposed to hold the lead

we have only one clutch player and opponents know it. they know if they get close they have a great chance to win

I hate Randle with ball in his hands at end of game. Pretty much same with RJ.

The only way either guy gets better at exactly that situation is giving them ball at the end of the game. There is just no 2 ways around that, for better or worse.

We start 2 22 year olds. Its part of the equation. RJ does some clutch things. Dribbling thru teams is rarely good unless your elite at it. neither of our guys are.
RJ gets to the line. Brunson lacks the length.
If we had the answers, we'd be an NBA coach. We are a .500 team.

if we had more shooters out there who could hit shots in clutch, Randle would have more space (i'd like to think) instead of dribbling into double teams.

We desperately need reliable, clutch shooters. I'd take a Grayson Allen at this point, and I hate him otherwise.

Yeah. Brunson was wide open after Randle darted towards sideline. Randle gotta recognize and pass.

i thought the Lakers played that to perfection. I think they suspected a give and go to Brunson, so they had Lebron guard the in-bounds because he's big and he's smart/crafty. So that killed the give and go.

After about a second or so he doubled Randall. At least once if not twice in that same game Randle was late on dishes and there were shot clock violations. This happened for whatever reason -- he's slow to process that, he only dishes when all hope is lost, whatever. But on that last possession he decided to keep it and we lost

the team as a whole needs more shooter that they're willing to flip it too. Think about Milwaukee. in that same situation you need to guard all 5 of their guys because they will draw a play for everyone. We should be removing the center in that situation and have 5 guys who pose enough of a threat. We are absolutely the most predictable team in those situations, which in and of itself is not fatal, but when you don't have a reliable closer who has ice in his veins it is a problem. teams are going to quickly double or triple randle or brunson

Wouldn’t you have to look at the teams defensive rating per quarter. So maybe a team is 20th offensively in the 4th quarter but they are 4th defensively in the 4th.

All of the "Trade Randle" post on social media started in the Knicks 2020 season, because Randle kept TRYING to be a clutch player going down the stretch of every game in the season, and failing ..
Randle never passing ball on double team, committing 1 or 2 turn-overs down the stretch, and missed FT shots.
Four seasons and nothing change in Randle's performance in the 4th quarter.
And coach Thibs should've been Fired last season having a 17-24 record in MSG.
Give the ball to the PF Randle and let him dribble the clock out.
D.Rose saved Randle in the 2021 season by becoming the Knicks 4th quarter CLOSER !!!

We've gotta win this game in order to stop the bleeding of this 2 game losing streak + being down only 1 game behind Miami in the standings would be a big time difference than being down 3.0.

Def. need Brunson with the ball at the end of the game and either create for himself or distribute to someone with an open shot

fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

Stinks not having Jalen Brunson.

But I have a weird feeling R.J. Barrett will attack and drop 40+ Points tonight.
