Turner makes almost twice as much as big Mitch this year.

Mitch contract: $17M, $15.7M, $14.3m, $13M

I've never seen a Center (as talented as Myles Turner) fail to improve his overall game now 7-8 years later. He's literally the same exact player @ 26 years old (8th season) as he was @ 20 years old (2nd season).

All the talent in the world for a big man but yet 0 All-Star appearances?

If he would've been able to improve his overall game in between 20 years old up until currently 26 years old? This dude would've been a perennial All-Star (easily).

Seems like a nice enough guy so congrats to him

But never really wanted him here before and certainly not at this new price

I think this is a possibly the most brilliant use of extra cap space that I have ever seen in the NBA (excluding that Otis Thorpe trade.. Detroit really fumbled that one).

They get to keep Turner... they also make him one of the most desirable trade pieces next year and the year after. Guys like Turner are my ideal #3 options: they can impact the same offensively, but bring way more to the table than just that, from his ability to board, block, and stretch the other team's defense...

The Pacers are essentially bargaining this year's cap space to really jam their team full of talent in the future.

Creative move by the Pacers.
Gives Turner what he wanted yet keeps flexibility for the last two years of his contract.
Feel if it does not work out, his contract will attract other assets if traded.
For us, it would have involved giving up assets and an extension that would have put him in the desired $30M per year. Not as good as a situation.
Would have loved to add him but at a lesser annual salary and without giving up assets. Both options that were unavailable.
I'm okay with getting back MR and developing Sims. Other than their three point shot, feel they impact the game in similar if not better ways.

So he can be traded now and going forward on that new contract?
Looks like after this season its quite reasonable?
Thats the money part. Im not endorsing we peruse him.
At some point I am under the belief we will need to upgrade the offensive output at the 5 if we are to truly contend.
some players we label as "indispensable" can be "Expendable" depending on what returns. For example if OG could be had for IQ, Toppin, Fornier, and the most valuable 1st round pick then we are upgrading.
Toronto can move in toppin if they deem him still a prospect and trade out one of their attractive forwards for other things they need.
Just an example. In some scenarios bring in OG means one of IQ or Grime is not playing.
In a scenario were OG is not a knick, the subject is moot.

I don’t know about all that - yes Turner has been often injured and his offensive game can be hit or miss but many people drool about Mitch and I’d take Turner over Mitch all day.

Turner vs Mitch

Age 26 vs 24
Mpg 30 vs 27
Fg% 54 vs 67
3fg% 39 vs 0
Ft% 76 vs 51
Rbs. 8 vs 9
Blks. 2.4 vs 1.8
Pts 18 vs 7

- Turner spreads floor and opens lane for driving - Mitch clogs everything
- Turner better man/man defender and rim protector
- Mitch gets kudos for his offensive rebounding but he standing at the basket 90% of the time
- Mitch zero basketball skill and poor screener

I don’t know Turner looks like he’s playing well to me 54/39/76 18 & 8 with 2.4 blocks per game.

LOL - very true - not even sure he’s shot outside the paint yet.

I like Mitch he makes me laugh - seems like a good kid BUT the lack of skill development, all the injuries & lane clogging make me want more.

the bold is absolutely untrue and says "I havent watched Myles Turner, Im only looking at blocks per game"

Turner is a below average defensive player, a weak rebounder and a literally league average scorer. So what if he's a stretch 5, he's not a very good one. Most overrated guy on this board. Indy was smart to resign him, nobody wants to go there.
