I know he’s 32 and very injury prone and having a down year. He’s injured now too. But when he plays he’s still a plus. Charlotte is better on both sides of the floor with him still. He’s much more complete and a better defender than Fournier. His contract runs up after next season which aligns with the Knicks rumored plan of being players in 2024 free agency. In the meantime, when healthy, he can be that wing off the bench next to Quickley for 20 mins per game, increased when Knicks hit the injury bug. Knicks can manage his minutes pretty well as he moves into the next phase of his career. The trade would be Fournier, Reddish and a small additional salary (probably Svi) for Hayward. Fournier can reunite with Steve Clifford who he had success in Orlando with. Reddish is a great flier for Charlotte at this stage. Not sure if any minor draft compensation would be needed on either side, but probably nothing significant. Just makes a lot of sense for both parties. Knicks wanted to sign Hayward when he was a free agent. He’s obviously declined with injury but have to think he would still be welcomed in a smaller role and his contract would be worth more to the Knicks than Fournier/ Reddish. He would give the bench a jolt that’s needed.

Hayward off the bench in a package with another piece or 2 would be nice. Plus keeping him off the bench may keep him healthier.

You forgot to add that he doesn't like D. So, 32 y/o, no d playing, always injured. Exactly what we need

For Fournier sure but Gordon seems cooked to me — I really think we need at least 2 defensive minded wings that can knock down a perimeter shot and play smart.

Thinking guys like G Allen, J Hart, R Bullock…maybe… C Duarte —- just solid.smart players that won’t cost us too much and Thibs will, play

He makes 30mil this year and next. Thats Fournier and Rose money. I like him but thats a lot of coin off the bench. Im thinking thats a bit rich for a non contender team in a support role.
He'd be the highest payed on the team.
He is better than EF. Its not his talent im concerned about, and the health thing, while legit is always a threat with any player.

Has to be a dollar dump on both sides - if its for the Fournier/Rose/Reddish trio it makes sense.

The Derrick club option is sticky. I'd guess his lack of contribution makes for a gentleman's handshake that they all good with it. Thing is I don't Think CLT can buy him out this year because of it.
In a world were IQ is traded, perhaps bringing in Coby White is not bloody awful. Say IQ is traded as part of package for OG.

Depends on the price. Hayward gets hurt sneezing and should come dirt cheap.

Not sure where you get the no defense part. He plays decent defense. Charlotte is at their best defensively with him on the floor. He’s not great but at least league average.

That would be the hope. Keep him in the 20 mpg range most nights. He could be very good against opposing benches and be useful for the playoffs the next 2 years. And worst case he’s a big expiring contracts for a blockbuster trade when needed.

Fournier is also about league average at D. And shoots just as well from the outside if not better. Maybe we should just trade for Fournier to improve our bench? He is more durable too.

A big expiring contract! Great idea! Haven't heard that strategy in a while. Probably since Isaiah Thomas got fired.

Because all the moderate/small contracts have gotten free agents to sign here? Or because a bigger expiring and a bunch of picks is less desirable than a bunch of projects with longer contracts and a few picks?

You want better players theyncost more money. That is the point of consolidating some of these marginal players to better players.

Most would disagree with you about Fournier being league average on D. Fournier and Hayward are worlds apart defensively.

I was being more sarcastic than serious. If Hayward is really that much better perhaps we should trade for him. Trade Fournier for him.

Shame his career got derailed by that freak injury and he never really returned to his prior self.
I have seen him play in person with Jazz twice and he really was special. 6-8 wing who in crunch time played the point and did really well.
He'd have been great on this boston team, and we all saw how well EF did with celtics.
Sometimes it the fit with others that brings out the best on some players. EF is not a good fit with Randle. They just don't seem to get on with each other.

Just come and say it. You want to bang Gordon's wife. It's also the reason you're an iHart fan I agree about Hayward. He was a good combination of skill and size. He can still play, but I wouldn't feel comfortable taking a chance on him given his history. I mean the injury stuff, not the rumored underage stuff with his current wife. I'm pretty sure she was over the age of consent, even if she was in HS.

You are not wrong ... saying Hayward is a solid defender is like saying Chris Paul is. Yeah, when they were like 27. Those days are over. I suggested Hayward earlier this year but he's just not healthy. You are a getting a broken player and for the fit you might as well play Fournier.
