Why do I do this? Derozan is a 4th Q killer. He can score from anywhere but excels from the midrange. He compliments what we already have and is a talent upgrade even at 33 years old. He expires after next season and would be an affordable at a reasonable veteran contract so I'm confident we can retain him. We would still be cap friendly for FA's in 2025. He is a veteran with playoff experience. Drummond can still score in the post. We need guys who can defend and score in the 2nd unit. Rose gets his feel good story return to Chicago.

Dont know why Martin is against it. But I would be concerned about his availability in the coming years, at his age. Especially if he's logging heavy minutes.

Would you slot him at the 2 or 3? I believe Grimes would be OK with it because of who was replacing him, and his relative inexperience. RJ would probably ask to be traded, after starting for this long.

only one player is over 300lbs Drummond is a throw in but could be useful situationally. Definitely not an every day player. I like Simms because he brings the defensive intensity and he can run with the second unit. He's not a sloth like Hart

I think Derozan gives you another player Thibs can trust, but I was thinking Grimes to the 2nd unit even though RJ and Derozan both average around 18 shots.

If you were talking about Russell Westbrook who relies on athleticism I would agree with you. Derozan is crafty as **** and has that old man mid range game. I can't think of any major Derozan injuries, he could very well have a long and productive NBA career. And if not, don't resign him or give him a vet minimum. We don't have to give him an extension in the summer of 2023.

trading FRPs for this guy is the ultimate Scott Layden move. My god no. Fournier/Rose/Cam for Derozan. If they dont want Cam they can have 2 2nd round picks

That won't get it done. But, if you can get Derozan for less then yeah, do it. We are moving past the point of building through the draft with late 1st rd picks. We don't even have enough minutes to go around for the roster we have now. Rotation minutes are going to be hard to come by. Even less available when our Euro stash PG comes over.

I don't think you are saying don't trade picks, but you are saying don't trade picks for a 33 y.o. Allstar. Well, I think Derozan makes us better and helps us get into the next tier with Cleveland and Philly and puts some distance between us, Atlanta, Indy and Miami. Maybe a smaller move materializes closer to the deadline. Maybe it's a bigger one. We still have assets to make that next move. Trent Jr? Crowder? I don't think Derozan is cooked yet. It is however a risk, not Layden stupid dumb risk but still a risk with only 1 more year of commitment. If we still have our 1st's at the draft I suspect we trade them for future 1st's.

3 first round picks and you are just about to explore the downside risk of the trade.

No sane NBA team trades 3 picks for a vet that old and who really doesn’t fit.

A vet still playing at an Allstar level. So you get All-Star level Derozan this year and into the playoffs. How big is the falloff next year? It would have to be pretty dramatic for us to not still be a better team. As to fit, how can another legitimate scoring threat be a problem. It’s one more guy other teams have to stop. You can’t stop everyone.

This years 1st and Dalas’s are projecting in the 20’s. Maybe you knock those out of the park but are there minutes for those guys? Maybe there’s a bigger deal out there this year. Me, i’m improving the team this year if I can. Chicago is going to move him. Maybe he can be had for less but if he is gettable, we should be in there getting it done.
