If he survives in Detroit after the deadline. He’s the perfect fit in a 9-man rotation here alongside Quickley, Toppin and Hartenstein. He can score, do most other things, and doesn’t hurt the defense. He’s already a great fit here. We can keep him to 15-20 mpg to keep him fresh and upright most games. I’d seriously consider giving a late first round pick for him given his perfect fit. But we traded him technically July 11? Can we deal for him back during the draft? Is it exactly a year?

I think Detroit wants to keep him for locker room purposes.

But for how long ? I agree he’s great but rebuilding teams typically move a guy like this for value and find a new locker room guy for the next season.

We need a Burks or Eric Gordon. Late first rounder be damned. We have enough assets in the cupboard. Time to add a player who can help us and keep the momentum going. Knicks will have multiple firsts the next few years and can add a guy like this while still having the ability to draft a developmental piece each year in the first round. Example would be trading the worst of the Knicks or Dallas pick for Gordon or Burks and drafting Max Lewis or Colby Jones with the higher of the picks. 2 great pieces added. Gordon/ Burks for a vet and Lewis/ Jones for a rookie to develop on the wing.

The odds are stacked against us in re-acquiring Burks this season.

He would need to be traded to another team first, then waived (and clear waivers). Only then can we sign him within the season.

For what it's worth, I think Fournier is just as capable as Burks. Over their careers they have very similar ORatings and DRatings... though in both respects, Burks is slightly better. :p
This season, Fournier started out ice cold and under normal circumstances, he would have been able to play his way out of his slump. This year he has not had that opportunity (yet).

I figured it wouldn’t be this season. It would be an offseason move if there’s no legit upgrade prior to the deadline.
