I wonder what it would take to extend Quickley.
He hasn’t put up borderline Allstar raw numbers like Herro, RJ, Poole, Kevin Porter Jr…
Heck, he has never shot 40% for the field and his 3pt% hasn’t reflected how good a shooter he is.
But, for some reason, his advanced metrics are absolutely elite.
Would some team see enough potential to offer up a Brunson-type of team? Possibly!
Is this the best way to spend their money for the Knicks? Maybe! As currently configured, he’s already set up to play around 30mpg. Starter minutes.
As good as we’ve seen Obi, I reckon he could command $10-15m/year based on potential. Sure! But on a team like ours where we can only offer him 10-20mpg. Perhaps our money would be better spent elsewhere.
From his standpoint, he has to believe that given the right opportunity he’s a potential all star and would need an awfully enticing offer to stay. If you want an analogy, he’s like Steve Young behind Montana, or Aaron Rodgers behind Favre. Or Garopolo behind Brady. :p
