Either before the deadline (for Mitch, cam and future draft compensation) or July 1 after either clearing cap space or via sign and trade. We hear about Thibs constantly talking about rim protection and Turner is probably the best run protector in the league on top of being just enough of a floor spacer to open up more space for Brunson, Barrett and Randle. Also a great free throw shooter for a big man. Unless Thibs gets fired, Turner just makes too much sense. He’s not going to be in Indiana much longer and is still only 26. I don’t love his injury history, but I understand fit is a priority and he’s a unique player that fits the coaching style and player personnel. Until he is moved elsewhere, I will view him as I viewed Brunson last year as a player who sort of feels destined to be a knick.

100% disagree.

FO has gone all in on Hart. Just wait. And they love Sims at his cost.

Turner is on an expiring contract, you don't need to trade Mitch/Cam/draft stuff for him. He is also injured a ton.

Hart appears to be the alternative they have taken. The fact that they gave him a trade kicker makes it seem unlikely they intend to ignore him.

That leaves the Robinson/Turner debate up for grabs.

I think we see how Hartenstein plays out, but I think the investment in Robinson is also real.

Barring a trade we will draft a center and develop him in the next two years. Either Indy is delusional about his trade value or they test the market then let him walk.
Sims at this price is a good value. Mitch still has another level to go. I think knicks paid the entrance fee for that. Stay tuned.

If Hart is the answer than great. Just need floor spacing without sacrificing the rim protection. And by no means am I suggesting giving up a ton for Turner. I’m talking minimum draft comp when the price inevitably goes down.

Imo, this is the furthest from what FO is planning.
They just made a strong decision for MR.
They have three solid C's and signed Hart who can do both.
How much has Turner really helped Indiana?
Turner will go to a team that is a playoff contender and has that specific need.

Don’t disagree but Mitch’s contract was essentially structured in a way so it’s easy to trade. Resigning him was just easier. I don’t think he was resigned to be a long term mainstay at center. It’s pretty much sign him and figure out the trade later.

I’m confident in Brunson and RJ being long term fixtures, and to a lesser extent Quickley and Grimes. Barrett obviously could have been traded but I still believe that was more business related to getting him to agree to the contract. Grimes seems in the plans as a future starting SG and quickley will stay as long as he’s fine being the 6th man. I’d like to see him eventually become what Tyler Herro is to Miami now. The fourtcourt to me is a complete wildcard going forward. Anything could happen. No idea what the future of the PF and C is.

The Knicks are great at the center position for the future by resigning double-double 2 blocks MitchRob, replacing Noel with Hart, plus having a 2nd season Sims.

The Knicks PF situation between coach Thibs and Randle 40 minutes performance need immediate change.
The Knicks SF position having RJ Barrett and Cam Reddish are ????
The Knicks should've made a trade for one of the Raptors many 6.8 forwards in the offseason.
The Knicks are great at the SG position by having spot-shooter Fournier, combo-guard Quickley, and 2nd season Grimes.
The Knicks having a healthy D.Rose throughout the season as a closer will take a lot of pressure off the new starter PG Brunson. And hopefully 2nd season McBride could get more than garbage time minutes this season.

Another alternative is for the Knicks to free up the cap space to sign Turner in the off-season (if he's interested in moving) and trade Mitch for help at another position.

Yes I listed that as an option in the original post. Clearing cap space would involve declining Rose’s team option and moving off about 20 mil more in salary (either Mitch or Fournier plus a small salary like McBride gets them about there). That would get them to an offer for Turner in the 4 year 85 mil range I believe.

Would think every contract is negotiated with trade flexibility in mind. Imo, the contract signed by Mitch makes it more probable that the Knicks keep him for the entirety. MR would be making $12m his 4th year. Why would the Knicks want to trade that, if he is playing close to current levels? It would probably cost more to add an average back up by that time. But do agree, contract was a good deal and has great value if a interesting trade option comes up.

My point was that I do not feel the Knicks have ANY interest in trading MR for Turner. Especially after making the moves they just made.

Are we better with Ayton and Obi up front? Conceptually yes.
This was all discussed over the summer. PHX needs a change as the window is closing and there failure to advance last year taints them going forward.

Leaning more toward CP3 running out of gas in the Finals. Having more to do with the Suns falling short, than anything.

Get the feeling that the FO would be more interested in Ayton. Wouldnt be against a trade, or at least taking a call.

Ayton isn’t the rim protector I think Thibs would want. If you move on from Robinson it has to be for an elite paint defender.
