Article points out that Quickley and Toppin would both be drafted in the top 10 if the 2020 draft was redone. That is impressive drafting by our front office.

Grimes was pick 25 and I suspect by the end of this season he would be redrafted top-10 too.

It’s good drafting. What it comes down to for the Knicks is player development. But Barrett, IQ, Toppin and Grimes is a nice start if developed correctly.

Quickley I can understand rising. There’s lots of respect around the league for him and rightfully so. Obi? Can he even put the ball in the ocean?

Obi is not a finished product and it sure looks like it, right?

Obi, IQ would have been redrafted higher if Thibs would have developed them better.

Grimes, Obi, IQ, MR, RJ, Sims is proof to those who say he does not develop the yoot.
Those that claim Thibs does not are just mad because Thibs also tries to get his Vets/Top players to perform at their highest level.

Agree about Obi not being a finished product. As much as I point out that he has not earned the right to start due to his lack of shooting, he has showed all around improvement last year and should be given the chance to continue to develop. Kid has a great motor, is uber athletic and should be able to add more offensive moves. Hoping to see some type of catch and shoot from mid range as well as a few post moves. Think with the right trainers, this should not be hard to do.

Interesting that 3 of the top 10 were drafted after 20.

I think Phil is talking about shooting. If we take that as his argument then no, Obi cannot put the ball in the ocean. Just saying. Everything else on offense he does as well and most of those things he does a few levels better than Randle, who is one season removed from All-NBA second team.

The problem is we need to get value for Randle. We can’t just give him away. We need to find a team willing to offer a couple of picks for him (maybe a late first and an early second). Once Randle is gone, it will open time for Obi, Reddish, and Grimes (at SF).

Nice.

I see Quick more as a backup 2 guard, than a backup PG. He's got a wicked floater, but has trouble finishing at the rim. Grimes has that ability, has been working on his PG skills. And last but not least, he's a first rate defender. Good enough to defend starting PGs. Quickley is more of an instant offense/6th man, than a backup PG IMO.

If D. Rose is traded at some point in the season. Reported that he wants out. The FO might grant his request after he proves to the league that he can make it to the first trade deadline, without missing a bunch of games. A reserve backcourt of Grimes/Quickley might be the way to go. Hope Quick has been working on finishing at the rim. That would make them a dangerous tandem.

With Brunson and Hart in the lineup, I could see Obi taking his game to the next level. Im guessing their ability to find cutters will benefit Obi more than anyone else.

In the 10 Games that Obi started last year, he shot 44% from 3, 82% from the free-throw line and 57% overall. More minutes breeds more confidence. More confidence means his eyes can focus more on the basket as opposed to looking over his shoulder wondering when he is going to get pulled.

Is this a small sample size? Of course. But until Obi gets a full season of 30 mins per at the 4 we wont know for sure...

Really hoping Thibs staggers the mins and allows Obi to get legit burn with Brunson.

IQ looked better as season went on for sure. WE all saw the struggles of playmaking and dealing with new rules creating contact on offense.
He struggled early, and did a great job as the season progressed. It was not instant!
Obi had some issues too and the seaosn finishing as he did with Randle out looked good.
Im sorry I can't reference the article but there was a bit player who had a big game a few years ago and it discussed "Season ending games of no consequence and players putting up big numbers not a good predictor".
Kind of that easy flowing IQ to OBI thing we kind of fell in love with. It was a logical article which outlined the lack of crunch times in such games and really what a thin line to perform in this leaugue can be.
Again, Sorry I can't pull it up.

That is in my brain with OBI and why I have a hard time transposing that success into the future. And remember, what I think don't mean ****. OBi gonna do it or not and fans opinions don't matter!

Grimes to me ceiling is Andre Igudala. one time allstar who did avg. 19.9 pts once. Kid was great on some not so great Philly teams. Once the money was done he settled in as a great glue role player when surrounded by good/great players. for Grimes to avg 20 pts as some hope he too will "Need the ball". Great players who pass need the ball. Shooters need the ball. penetrating players need the ball.
Im fatigued by the instance of Well, Randle/RJ/Bruns all need the ball to be effective. Yep.

Prediction. I don't do them. I'll put in my "record predictor" and have fun with it once the roster is set.

Yeah because look at who makes up the top two… they were taken in the top two

I love these NBA redraft articles (Bill Simmons does a good one) but this one is bit early, IMO. With that said, this is turning into a pretty good draft class. Not upset with any of the new placements

I like LaMelo but I would still take Edwards #1 though
