With the Knicks and pretty much everywhere else, Thibs has run a 9-10 player rotation. What do you mean by tight rotation style that differs from any other coach? Why is this particular to Thibs?
Riley had a tight rotation style. So did Van Gundy. I don't see that from Thibs with Knicks.
Martin....I agree with you.
I'm not saying Thibs rotation style is bad or wrong or in different from others. And I'm not saying it's a Thibs problem, but rather the FO who hired and put Thibs in this position. You can put Van Gundy or Pat Riley in the same coaching situation, and my comments would be the same. BUT, I have more coaching respect for those two guys (Gundy and Riley) and I still look at Thibs as a coaching tier or 2 below those guys, as maybe 2 below Pat Riley and 1 below Van Gundy.
But my point still stands. When you have a deep team and a coach that appears to play or (want to play) a shorter rotation (8-9 guys), and simply doesn't adjust OR takes too long to adjust, thats not a good match for this roster thats 11 deep (if you include Cam). Yes Thibs ran a 9-10 man rotation last year, but that was forced (in my opinion). That did not appear to be the norm (student of Van Gundy and Riley so I'm not surprised).
Still this doesn't give Cam any mins at all, or very little which is something I prefer. I mean he's due for a contract extension and we traded a 1st to get him, so I would think it's a priority to give this guy some minutes. Whether Cam deserves it or not, it's a clear indication of the FO and Thibs not aligned. As soon as Cam was traded, rumors said Thibs did not approve the trade or the addition of Cam. But rumors aren't facts, so I didn't hold my breath.
But again, I'm usually optimistic around this time that Thibs will adjust to the roster. He will not give Randle heavy minutes like he's done in the past. He will find minutes for Cam and Obi. And the FO will do some minor trades to help Thibs and the young core's development. Thats my optimistic view. But if we have a rough start to the season, while playing the vets, and we are still trying to make the playoffs. I'm the least of Thibs worry. The media will be all over Thibs and the FO quicker than I can post about it.
