I actually think we have a near perfect roster for the moment. Like the Nets a few years back, we have built up a young and talented roster that has steadily improved. We have solid coaching and now have a FO that doesn't operate based on emotions and low self-esteem.
The one roster issue I still have is starting another season with Randle again at the 4. I know he can play better than he did last season - just can't get past his style of play (iso) and really don't think he will defer to Brunson. He also plays too slowly compared to the rest of the roster IMO. Do people here really think it is likely we make it through 4 more seasons with Randle and he turns it around?
I also think it's time to give IQ the D. Rose minutes - so maybe we move D. Rose at the deadline and give him a final chance to join a contender. Regardless - I came up with this proposed deal and could see it helping both teams.
NY acquires Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder (expiring) and Dario Saric (expiring) for Randle and McBride
We would get out of 4 years of Randle and acquire a sharp shooting 4 that could stretch the floor the way Novak did for us years ago. He doesn't need the ball which gives more room for RJ to grow, Brunson to do this thing, etc... Crowder and Saric expire so we could waive Saric and keep Crowder for his defensive tenacity this year. Of course this opens up more room for both Obi and Cam Reddish to show whatever they possess. If we falter - we have 3 #1 picks for this years draft. If we play well - no loss. Phx could use another shot creator and Randle would solidify their starting lineup.
Who says No and if so - why wouldn't this be a deal worth pursuing?
