Ignoring picks, except that if you choose no trade, you keep all picks and in each other trade, it will "hurt" a little with the required picks, which scenario do you prefer?

A No Trade
Brunson/Rose
Fournier/IQ
Barrett/Reddish
Randle/Toppin
Robinson/Hart

Or

B Barrett and Fournier for Mitchell and sign Melo
Brunson/Rose
Mitchell/IQ
Melo/Reddish
Randle/Toppin
Robinson/Hart

Or

C Fournier and Toppin for Mitchell, sign Melo

Brunson/Rose
Mitchell/IQ
Barrett/Reddish
Randle/Melo
Robinson/Hart

D Randle and Fournier to LAL, Mitchell and Beasley to NYK, Westbrook to UTA
Brunson/IQ
Mitchell/Beasley
Barrett/Reddish
Toppin/Melo
Robinson/Hart

Which of these options do you prefer?

A - No Trade
B - Barrett and Fournier for Mitchell
C - Fournier and Toppin for Mitchell
D - Randle and Fournier to LAL, Mitchell and Beasley to NYK, Westbrook to UTA
None of the Above

None of these is a likely scenario and you can’t “ignore” the picks. Since the scuttlebutt is like 4 to 6 #1 picks some unprotected to go with say an IQ and an Obi I say hell no. But even what is listed here plus those picks hell no.

It was more that I couldn't describe which picks would be traded. So, assume we trade picks but its not clear which ones. Just that it isn't nothing, it "hurts" a little to give up the picks.

D - A - C - B for me. I think D makes the most sense for the Knicks but it not likely due to Randle's contract. I think "No Trade" is the most likely occurrence. B and C leave us flawed, so the prospect of giving up picks and still be flawed doesn't make me excited. I kind of want to see Barrett and/or Randle revert hack to 20/21 form before giving up draft capital.

D would be great, but there is no realistic scenario that doesn't include any of RJ/IQ/Obi/Grimes.

I'm rooting for no trade at this point.

D and B obviously leave us in the best salary cap position, not paying both RJB AND Randle come next year. But you better hope that you're not giving up too much talent and then regret trading the picks. I'm still of the opinion that you just don't trade picks without a minimum of top-3 protection.

No one wants to trade Grimes. He looks like a player who has a chance to breakout and turn into a borderline All-star/solid starter. He has above average defense already, and the only thing left to prove is whether he can continue to shoot 3s at a high efficiency and whether he can consistently create his own shot at a decent efficiency. If he can do both, then he is borderline Allstar and the Knicks will look like idiots trading him AND five picks for Mitchell.

Agree with you 100%. Knicks would still need a DM-like player but I just love Grimes too much.

Was just wondering why he wasn't anywhere to be found in the poll!

I ignored any players outside the 10 man and assume that the “package” will be some combination of picks and other players not otherwise necessary to make salary match. It’s not perfect, but Grimes is probably worth a conditional 1st right now. Include him or an extra conditional first in the imaginary package. Or if you think he is worth more, include more or him.

I just didn’t want to go through every permutation.

In my mind Leon telling Danny “well, the logo likes Grimes, so do we. Two unprotected, 3 1sts, EF, and Grimes. You like Blueberry or Maple syrup”

Why would he come here? What role would he have? I don't see it.

Of course most votes going to Randle and Fournier being dumped - not happening kids!

I hope Leon Rose agrees with us. Mitchell is a great player but Grimes has the potential to be very solid. If he blossoms, we can have him, keep all our draft picks, and still have all our young people to really structure a trade that fits our needs. A Brunson/Mitchell backcourt was never going to work defensively. A Brunson/Grimes backcourt makes far more sense if Grimes can develop into an efficient 20-22 point scorer.

He’s a catch and shoot guy at this point. I doubt he could even try to guard most of the guys on this messageboard

Easy peasy………

Lets think of this reality. There are lots of fans that think this, but then you have a well regarded FO and a pretty good coaching staff. So if it don’t work we get to say “told you so” but we don’t get that unless Grmes turns into that somewhere else.

I have to weigh in that I hope Leon knows better. Either pass on the trade because its the right thing but then lets be real also, the next move might not be better and it could fail as well.
