The asking price for Mitchell is rumoured to be 5-7 first round picks, and two or three of our best young players. Anyone out there worth targeting for half that asking price?

well if you are willing to deal with looney tune style crazy, Kyrie probably could be had for two first and a bluechipper

A little too looney for me, lol. Spree was kind of looney, back in the day, but he was reliable, and went above and beyond to help the team succeed. Dont see that happening with Kyrie.

If Randle doesnt look like a good fit, Siakum might be worth pursuing. He bounced back from an off-season, and he has championship experience. Wouldnt give up 3 first rounders though.

It seems like once it gets to January there's one team that was hoping to make the playoffs and instead pivots to a rebuild and securing a high lottery pick. Last year it was Indiana, the year before Orlando. A lot depends on scheduling and how front or back loaded the teams schedule is. The Knicks only have Derrick Rose as an expiring contract (next year is a team option) to make that happen. I personally think Rose still has something left in the tank but that will be clearer by January.

One guy to keep an eye on is Collin Sexton. The Cavs are about 11 million below the luxury tax. Sexton doesn't want to sign a multi year deal at that amount, so he will likely hit unrestricted free agency next year. With the ascent of Garland and Rubio locked in as his back up, I don't think Cleveland will want to give him a big contract. The Knicks could trade Obi and draft picks after December 15. Cleveland and NY have both been tied to the other players before. A lot depends on if Sims Hart or Reddish can back up Randle at the 4.

Not only will this mystery young stud have to be available. He also has to want to play for this team. Spider Mitch is both which is why he’s so expensive and ainge knows the Knicks hungry history for a star player. Since we can’t draft our own (RJ maybe?)

I like the idea of targeting Sexton, as a less expensive alternative to DM. Also agree there will be players this season who want a change in scenery, or who arent in their team's long term plans. If Obi has taken his game to the next level, Id like to see if there are other options for Sexton, or any other player on the FO's radar.

OG Anunoby is the name I’ve heard floating around. He can slot in at the 3 with Barrett moving back to the 2. He has been reportedly unhappy in Toronto, But the question is would he be a needle mover.

It’s a trade, not FA. In most cases unless the Knicks are bad a traded for player will stay in a major market if the opportunity arises.

OG is a needle mover if they make other lineup moves to fit him. That being a lot easier said than done

Also the Knicks have assets to overspend if they think the player helps. It just can’t be a Ainge “rob the bank” level of overspend.

That's the rub. If you need to make other moves to fit OG, than it doesn't make sense to overpay. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of OG and feel he could help this team. But his lack of creation skills at the wing position have me hesitating. I'd make a move on him if that shot creator was already on the roster or if RJ takes the leap. Until that happens, I'd rather look for wing help through the draft or give Cam a shot, assuming a trade isn't made.

We are pretty set at all positions. What we are missing is the " comradery" guy. Someone who would cheer our guys on. Yes, I am talking about Theo Pinson

Contenders are set at all positions.

One guy who would be high risk reward. Because of his age, and getting him to buy in, would be Draymond Green. Warriors might not want to pay him what he wants on his next deal. Green would give the Knicks more of an edge, multiple championship experience. He knows what it takes to win it all.

If there was a shot at trading for him, and Green is playing well, I hope the FO takes it.

What about SGA? He is tall enough to be in the same backcourt as Brunson and guard the 2 guards. I think he may get tired of the tanking thunder sooner rather than later.

We are a young team with plenty of talent and room for our youth to grow into a contender. That's what I meant. Guys like Dray Green are absolutely crucial for a team with Championship aspirations. I don't think that's us, not yet anyway. Let's say we trade for him, who does he replace in the SL?

If the Knicks dump Randall ina deal for Westbrook like rumored, I could see the Knicks making a smaller deal for a back up 4 like Kuzma or Huichemora from DC. Don't know what that would take. Could see the team doing a soft tank for this upcoming deep draft while still getting a youngish 4 to share the spot with Obi with 24 mins each,unless Obi takes the spot and plays 34. I see the team doing something non of us expect. I think if we got Westbrook there is no way he gets bought out, we didn't even buy out Kembas 9 million dollar deal let alone 45 million. So if we got Westbrook we might use his deal to acquire some players on bad deals for the future. So that's what I think the team would do. Maybe get Westbrook and trade him to get good players an other team may want to shed the deals of. I think team is going to try to win this year but if we get of to a bad start be ok with losing and getting a too ten pick

The only issue with SGA is that the Thunder have so many picks already. Do you think they want even more? At some point you have to try to build a team that can win..

No need to buy out Westbrook he’d already be an expiring contract and we already got a our FA target this offseason Brunson. Westbrook would be in the rotation next year as a backup pg.


It looks like the Knicks already tried several times to get rid of Randle’s contract this way but unfortunately the lakers know Randle and weren’t interested

Atlanta got Dejounte Murray for three 1st’s and an expiring so I’m still trying to wrap my head around how Mitchell is worth more then that. Basically an all star talent in his prime with years on his contract if I’m giving up 3 first round picks.
