![]() What I liked reading was that IQ has worked out with D Mitchell this off-season. That shows he wants to be the best he can be. D Mitchell is the superior athletic player and probably has more skills but IQ wants to learn to be better from the best in the league. What if IQ takes a step or two and raises his game to his potential ? An improves IQ
With a more consistent 3 pointer, and midrange game, with Grimes and Brunson can be a very good three guard rotation as they all can stretch the floor and all play unselfishly, The. Throw in Fornier elite and diverse three or shooting at the 2 and 3 on or off the bench and we will be improved. I can see IQ really raising his stock this year. Team will be better with Brunson, Rose, and IQ at the 1 controlling the offense and playing faster. A faster offense will benefit greatly especially Randal and Evan who will be able to shoot faster in the flow of the offense with a defense that is less fixed. I would like Mitchell but not after being ripped off. Let IQ, Obi, Grimes, play. Let Cam play and Evan and we will have more value trade assets going forward. I think Cam remains past this season. I think he gets extended on a good value deal. Cam can't demand a huge pay day but a fair deal for him will mean we have him as a bench wing for future traded or in the rotation going forward. I can't wait to see what this team develops into with all our youth and draft assets. |

![]() Most of young NBA players are improving every summer. IQ is one of many. he is a nice player but we perhaps over value his athletic ability and defense. He is quick, but not explosive. His playmaking is a work in progress. To what degree?
I like his worth ethic because we read about it and see videos. WE don't about other players and thus we tend to over do it as fans. In part we tanked a bit last year. By that we deferred capital to build this chest of picks and yoot rather than spend it on the here and now. Tanking is sacrifice for more in the future. Different ways. I have no issues not going in on DM but Im more concerned with what is left after such a trade. This time I believe we'll have a good team around DM and our core. |

![]() I think IQ might be our most dynamic talent. He is a player that can't easialy be stopped and in the playoffs, you need a guy that you can give the ball to and ask to get you buckets.
I don't think he will ever be as good as Curry or Donovan, but in a few years, I think he'll be very close and might be our best player. |

His shiftiness is perfect for learning from Brunson who brings more footwork to the table. I hope IQ learns all of it; he is the perfect PG/6th man type for the Knicks. 1 more year with Rose off the bench and I wouldn't be surprised if IQ is ready for full PG duties by next year. He is quick, but not explosive. His playmaking is a work in progress. To what degree? OK....First let me say, IN GENERAL I agree that SOME knick fans overvalue knick players (cough cough Deuce McBride). But I disagree with the bolded. 1. Who's overvaluing IQs athletic ability and defense? Then you said IQ is quick but not explosive? Again, please define explosive. If you are saying he's vertically challenged, well so is Jalen Brunson (or CP) and we just signed JB to a mega contract (Which might be a steal in the future BTW) I never saw you play basketball, but I've played and still play (and I'm approaching 50). I would guess your explosiveness is the same as mine (or less). And I would say you and I are in the "not explosive" category. I will not say thats true for IQ. What I love about IQ and why I would hate to see him go, is because this young man is well grounded (spiritually / minimal off the court issues), always looking to improve and not afraid to reach out to other NBA stars. IQ doesn't suffer for the Randle syndrome, who only gets motivated during a contract year. IQ who's from Maryland, where I currently live, has always had that fire to improve. I see great things for IQ in the future (with or without the knicks). I can't say the same for Deuce McBride, as much as I love the kid (just my weakness for young 2 way players). But IQ is different. Yes he's a tweener in between positions, but so is half the NBA guards right now, during this position-less era. All I'm saying is give the kid a break. Just watch JB for example, and you will see. You don't have to jump out the gym to impact a game. IQ uses speed changes and blessed with a quick shooting release, that makes him very difficult to guard. He will struggle guarding bigger guards, just like Lou Will. But I believe IQ will or can have a similar career as a dynamic scorer off the bench (or starting depending on the team). Right now, for the knicks, he's a nice lightning rod to inject offence when the starters are not pulling their weight. And his playmaking is improving as we speak. He's a scoring guard who used his scoring capabilities to impact his playmaking. Lots of guards (including Jalen Brunson) have the same style of play. They look for their own first, and when the defense collapse, they know how to switch into a playmaker. This is the new age PG my friend. Old school PGs don't exist anymore, once CP retires. Speaking of CP, he's probably the least explosive player in the league, but his impact on the game is priceless. Born in Brooklyn, Raised in Queens, Lives in Maryland.

Yes, its all good. Love his personality, his thing with his mom, his soft spoken nature, etc. Good for you. Compared to Randle? Ok. You don't like Randle? That Your opinion. Did I piss in your cornflakes? Nope. We talking about Randle? You never saw me play? we not explosive but IQ is? Compared to us, yeah. He would look like a god even at the height of my powers. |

He would look like a god even at the height of my powers. Agree....Well probably for you Nothing personal and no attack on you. But you said something that I hear a lot of people say in this forum and outside in other forums. I think overall we devalue craftiness, change of speed, etc....But overvalue explosiveness / dunking. But thank you for answering my questions. Good one on the priest comment. That did come across a little weird, but I tend to like players that reminds me of myself (in my prime). I've played and seen a lot of basketball. And time and time again, the guys who are the top athletes, dunking before games and making the crowd cheer, are not always better than the guys who can barely jump over a dollar bill. Guys who can blow by their man is another example of players that may not always be good. Because those guys tend to be D. Mitchell type chuckers for good reason. They don't need any picks to get in the paint. Thats great. And I appreciate that, and I have personal experience in that area. But as you age, you tend to appreciate the guys that may need a pick to get by their man, because it involves other players which keeps players from standing around and just waiting their turn, and keeps them involved. Thats what you get when you add only explosive, blow by u type of players. And thats why I like JB. He will be durable (incept those drives into the paint he does a lot). Never said or didn't mean to say you called IQ a bum. Thats a little over exaggerated, but I respect your opinion. I believe IQ might be one of the few players that may not pass the eye test, but I believe in his work ethic, just like RJ....To always improve and eventually be on the level of these other guys. Similar to what Franco said. I don't hate Randle as a person. I like that he's a father and always shows love to his family. I don't like his game. I think he could be WAY more efficient if he stop trying to be like Kobe and just be like "bully ball" Randle. I'm also an Obi fan because I know what it's like to have a player like Obi on your team, just from my city league coaching perspective. You always need one Randle or two, don't get me wrong. But with JB and RJ, we have that. IQ off the bench, we have that. Players you just give them the ball and say go. But you need a nice mix of Obi types glue guys to win a championship. Same with Grimes. Players who don't need to dribble the air out the ball, and still impact the game on both ends (Grimes). Those guys don't grow on trees anymore. Since you need to show ISO capabilities in todays NBA just to get drafted, 2 way unselfish players are now flooding the GLeague. I hated the triangle but now I'm starting to appreciate system players who excels in the right system vs ISO 1on1 players. Born in Brooklyn, Raised in Queens, Lives in Maryland.

In short Brunson is less of an athlete and a better basketball player. |
