On the Athletic NBA podcast this morning, (did not catch the guest) they talked trades. Nothing really new but how Utah and Knicks could posture the talks. Knicks could wait until season starts and how they start. Same if Utah wins some games early they might want to build with DM or trade to tank it if he is hot. Nothing new.
But they did discuss a bit Knicks hierarchy and how Leon really does not engage in most trade talks. He is in the back ground and does the wrap ups/completions. Not for ego but because Perry and Brock Aller are really good at this. They said Aller is fastidious about "apparent value" and does not relent. They clarified this of interest as its the polar opposite of Ainge who has his price and thats it. Aller will not do a trade if its not "fair" given his metrics. He could be told to. Its funny because we do hear bits and pieces the last two years how strict the knicks are in negotiations and won't "Over pay". Does not mean they were off on Kemba, but we all agreed it was a lot risk move. Yes, some fans are a bit taken back on EF or Randle as "Mistakes". I'd say after a 37 win and being consistant with "it gets sorted out on the court, not with words
one could say things could have been better, but with development of yoot there were gray areas that did not spell a disaster. Proof? some of you can argue the succeess of our yoot in short samples.
Im super glad to hear this. Im not tooting my own horn here when I said a few years back "change the methoed of thinking and you will change results". Thats just common sense and its why when fans or media do the "We should not do xxx because it did not work in the past". or "Increase opportuinty you increase luck". Nothing we did not learn reading cute business books or stuff printed on coffee mugs.
So when I hear or read this it give me hope. Not that everything pans out or executes. But if can just stick to a process/method/Discipline with confidence things do and will change then it did in the past.
Seems like our FO is professoinal and fair. We pay what we pay, or not but respectfully presented. Seems like the dealings with Mitch was kept in house and cool. It got done. I thought Randle's contract was handled well too. Not saying his performance last year was great, but he made 21mil and 23 for this upcoming season. WE'll see how it executed. At the time he got his extension it was seen across the league and pundits as a good deal for knicks.
Not all fans can appreciate the macro view of what this change represents. They take the bait and the like to keep it emotional and want proof. Thats cool. But somtimes one or more steps into the ignorance and demonstrates that with short one liners.
Also, we paid a fair wage for Brunson apparently as nobody of note blasted it out that knicks went out of box with terrible consequence and might have just out finessed Dallas and others.
Little things add up. We did this, have a nice stable of yoot and chest full of picks. Solid coaching staff. Now, all we need are more wins!!!!
