Channing Frye was untouchable?
All Jerian Grant needed was to start?
We would regret letting Hermangomez go?

Yeah, me neither.

I think the point was “remember when Knick fans were discussing our players and perhaps not not applying proper valuations. Not “history of mistakes by other clubs”

Frye was a solid NBA player with a very good career on some excellent teams. wilson Chandler, Gallo, Ariza, even Toney Douglas and I know I'm leaving out some other examples -- solid pros who were rookies with the Knicks who could contribute. Stars hell no and perhaps over excitedly overrated by fans. But good players sold for magic beans in the era when we were lucky to have a first round pick much less our own.

Now again you have Landry Fields, Hall of Famer Andy Rautins, Damyean Dotson, Cleanthony Early....

Remember when you were looking into the Post sports page to get your Knicks info and stats. Looking at Reggy's stats or Alonso's when we played them. On your way to work. And comparing those to H2O's or Ewings'. Good times

And thru it all the Garden still the Garden and is the oldest arena in the league!
No arena has the vibe. When gutted they could not take that out!
Remember the old photos of playoffs and they had those stupid Circus apparatus hanging form the ceiling?
No center scoreboard, just the speakers.
I sat in a box seat way up top for a concert. We partied hard. From there its really quite a perspective on how the ceiling drops down. Not the best seats, but the booze and stocked bar was kinda of cool.

I don't think any of that ever happened. You're making it up

Oh I thought you were going to try to argue that Kobe for Divac was actually good trade just to “own” me

The problem is frye was supposed to be good here and he wasn’t. He did have a respectable nba career but that was after the Knicks. When he was here he was nothing more than the soft player we drafted over Bynum

Frye was a bit ahead of his time as a "stretch" 5. I'm not sure any of the coaches on the Knicks had the imagination to use him that way at the time, outside Isaiah. And even Isaiah tried to peg him as a PF. I always thought he would've thrived under Woodson.

Woodson or D’antoni he would have probably been better.

Marbury being such a team killing cancer during those years didn’t help either

Bynum career was short. He was very talented and had some good years but the money, the injuries and lack of motivation resulted in a short career. Bynum played on some damn good laker teams. What you say is based on fan expectations of a big man in a different era. That he had a good career was his skill set as a stretch 4/5 evolved.
Im not trying to “own you”, just stop using extreme fan caricature in hindsight and perhaps understand the team and the player in that year. Sure we made fun of his outfits and that he was more of a finesse type player after the bloody era. He was drafted as a 4 year senior and was to have faster impact. He could shoot.

Would Bynum been as successful here on a very less than championship team? Would Frye succeeded on that laker team if given minutes? Maybe if PHil coached him on the knicks?

I remember when GSW took Curry 1 spot before us and we took Jordan Hill, who while projected to go 4th that year, was widely regarded as a high bust possibility. No offense to Toppin but a big man dropping 4th to 8th makes me think of Jordan Hill. Dermar Derozan was a flawed player and still is a flawed player, but he has had a fantastic career and we would have been lucky to have him.

I think if the Knicks draft Dermar Derozan instead of Jordan Hill the garden is infinitely different. With a little patience and some luck, there is a multiverse where Derozan/Gallinari/Anthony/Stoudemire are your starting 4. Maybe Stoudemire's eyes don't fall apart and D'antoni has a monster season. You add a 3&D pg to that team and its probably not beating the Miami superfriends, but you have a ton of assets still and keep making moves.

Then, you actually still have cap space clearing to sign Anthony outright. Maybe you need to do something to make the cap work on Anthony, but not the haul that George Karl got and you don't take back Billups' contract.

You know I gonna spin wit it
