We did go more in their direction, we got rid of Burks and Noel and got younger. We got them a point guard who will hopefully make their life a lot easier. The press release specifically said we're building via our youth. Plus Kris from KFS said he was told that Randle got told if he's back with the team this season, it's on the terms of having a reduced role. Aside from jettison Randle, what more could they have done? (still holding out for that. Still a possibility we ditch Fournier).
Do not underestimate the importance of having a viable PG for developing young players- it's crucial.
Unfortunately for Obi, the PR team aint coaching the Knicks. As long as Thibs is stalking the sidelines, its difficult for me to believe that Randle will have a reduced role or minutes until I see it. How many times did we see Randle give a piss poor effort in a particular game and still played 36 mins?
For those that are suggesting that we give Randle a second chance ( actually, a 3rd chance as people conviently forget he was not very good his 1st year either), keep in mind, while Randle ia allowed to rehab his image and game, Obi will be playing 15 mins per for the 3rd consecutive year. He will be eligible for an extension next summer and we will still have no idea if Obi can be a legit starter in this league.
And we forget he was all NBA? Like it was some fluke? If obi is good he'll take minutes or get traded. Obi really showed some something really good his last 5 games. I suspect he might be a trade chip which is not a bad thing unless one is totally rancid on Randle and his outlook.
It all gets sorted on by opening day and the games after that. Perhaps the whole Dallas with Randle and the FO watching brunson was........
"See that, can you hit those open shots? or, move the ball?".......
Lets be real also, Knicks have had good stretches and Randle has moved the ball too.
He got his money settled so we think he is petty jealous about RJ success? Overly senstive? bothered by injuries and not handing it well?
He like an retired engineer who is too old and set in his ways?
As for OBI, He has to continue to show that he can create his own shot and be reliable outside. If so, he can be traded to a team that will embrace that and pay him. Or we trade Randle. We there yet?
Maybe, maybe not.
I like that OBI is knocking on the door! I like that Randle cares and pushes back. Personally I though he was thru it until his injury came up and his play was better.
The early chemistry with EF was problematic was one issue also.
