Just wondering if there's a connection point here in everyone's logic and preferences.

Who is Melo?

Think you know the answer.

Another correlation may be fans that dream about the bench guy being the next MJ and are pissed the starter is keeping them down. Ie. Franky/Obi fans

Now your have (PTMS) Post Traumatic Mooby Syndrome and your all in a bad way.
You should do a poll?

"Mooby's for Randle"
"Mooby's against Randle"

IM thinking Randle needs Vaseline gargle and he'll be ok. Just get in the truck, or what, and its all good from there!

Carmelo was a way better player who made the playoffs much more often in his career and his teams made deep playoff runs but whatever

Agree with nolad. Should do a poll on Randle alone. I don’t see the comparison between them, except both are targets for why we are losing or not going further. But melo took us further and was a better player in his prime, in my opinion. Neither player are 2 way players which is what I value more. Case in point dyson Daniel’s might be the player we should target. Even though he can’t shoot 3s I believe his impact in other areas will be huge.

But the reason I think Randle should go is not because of talent but to remove potential distractions and make room for Obi / Reddish who needs PT and continue this young rebuild. Personally I think Randle can coexist but why take the risk. With Randle or without we not winning a chip in the next few years. Plus He made his bed last season when he gave a thumbs down to fans. Fans that was already on the fence are now full blown boo birds ready to highlight every mistake he makes. It’s going to be another clown show and a repeat from last season. The media is like sharks that smell blood. Between the media and the fans, it’s a losing battle for Randle. Hope I’m wrong.

I don’t see him coexisting with the rise of RJ and several players who needs playing time. I’ve never been a huge Obi fan from the start but why draft him 8th to only play spot mins behind Randle. If we not trading him, and Randle is here, Obi will get limited mins. Trade him or play him. How long has he been in the nba now? Isn’t he due for a contract extension next year or soon. Just my 2 cents. I just don’t see it working smoothly without being a distraction. He will make a small mistake or have an out burse like he usually does after or during a bad game or miss call by the red and the media circus will be on him like flies. Without Randle there isn’t one player that standouts to me regarding who the media or fans will attack. So the young players can continue to grow in a less toxic environment.

Going heavy on the CBD were you, Nalod? Has to be cheaper in the Carolinas than up here in the northeast.

My PTMS has been treated, so I'm not in a bad way at all. Did you see the smilie? We've had enough "well by golly, look at that 147 year-old Melo scoring all these points for Portland and LA..." threads. It's all good in my world.

I've just started to notice that the most "tkf"-like comments about Randle coming from those who also tout the revisionist history that Melo set the franchise back to the NBL days. You know, that whole "forcible-rape-trade" psychosis that just never seems to go away. Maybe some posters here need a wine bath with their Vaseline gargle. Or maybe I need a new hobby.

I'm hopeful Randle's Knick time resolves itself into more than Marbles references. His child is older, he's working out with the yoots and smiling for the camera, there's no TMZ vids of him in a bathrobe yet...you're right, life might be good from here!

I do sense randle as the poster child for blame. Not sure why we Phil did a comp. Melo is first ballot HOF and was a hell of a player. His playoff record is not great but this is not tennis or Golf, its a team sport.
I suppose Melo was victim to playing on teams that were not talented enough. His crime? He was not first level super star. Just your run of the mill perennial allstar who had good health (hard work) and aggregated to a HOF career.

Salaries are not set but randle was slated to be the 47th highest paid player. Even if not efficient, for that money hanging 20-10 is not the worst contract as per PHilC.

Thumbs down to NY fans for booing and now we want him gone? To me it showed “Moxie” to put that thumb to fans and push back. Its like fans think he is not aware his on court issues? Like the coaches not on his ass about it?

He has earned that contract and the right to make it right with his team and the fans. Im not saying he should be exiled and some how the team is better for it. If he is trade fodder so be it. I won’t lose my mind over it. Personally I’d love to see him come back and succeed because the team does with him!

I don’t remember anything from Melo’s time here that sticks out like what Randle did with the video assistant, the throwing the ball after that great win and walking off the court.

I want to give Randle the chance to come back this next season with a better attitude- and whatever the stats, I’ll be happy if he works in a positive direction. Stats and wins matter less to me. And I don’t think we’re paying Randle at the same level % wise as we did Melo- I could be wrong, I’d have to look up the numbers to be sure.

Melo and Randle are both imperfect. My frustration would be locking into mediocrity vs. finding a path to build a winner, which might involve more losing.

I think we’re at a better place today with Randle than we maybe ever were with Melo.

There is stability at the FO & coaching positions, finally.

The FO is building assets, acquiring draft picks, making some smart moves and maybe a stinker or two that have yet to sink the franchise.

I will want Randle gone next year if the pouting continues, the constant complaining to the refs, the failure to move the ball like the ball moves when he is off the court. I think that is fair.

But I probably also wanted Melo gone, certainly would have preferred him leaving before signing the extension with us in 2014. We weren’t going anywhere.

He thru the ball after a great win, then he was shut down for rest of season due to re-injury. He said he was done after. Was it because if the injury and just a few games to go and was told if it happens its likey he’d be done for season? Or he was done as a knick?

I agree, the pouting, the arguing with ref’s, and attitude are not good looks. That needs to change.
It fuels the fans frustrations and nobody benefits from it.
Melo drew ire for smiling after losses and perception he was unwilling to change despite verbal media clips saying he would. His divorce was public and not a good look.
The contract became an issue over time. Phil was blamed for that and that took some heat off of Melo. He earned tht contract but then his play fell off. Phil’s triangle and Melo’s game became antiquated rather quickly.

Wanted to move on from Melo the offseason that we moved on from him. Mostly because the timeline didn’t fit. We weren’t close to being a contender and needed time to build. Which didn’t make sense for Knicks or Melo to waste those years.

Randle in his 3yrs here. Was terrible his first yr, balled out during the bubble, was terrible in the playoffs, and was terrible last year. So other than the bubble which was a unique situation. He hasn’t been having a good go of it as a Knick. He is owed a hefty raise which has a high probability of crippling the org. Way to risky to ride with him. He also is one of the better pieces we have to fill other needs while replacing him with Toppin.

Agree with the timeline not fitting, but Melo had already wasted Knick years during the Big Chief Prez Triangular debacle. Seasons with a broke unicorn, the AngryCryingBird version of DRose, Weedeater Noah, DFish, Rambis, Hornacek, etc.

Without another ball-out plays incredibly well with others year, I doubt anyone's looking to give Randle a huge raise from 47th place in the league. Not with the baggage and highlights he's accumulated since he earned the contract he's on. I guess we'll see.

Melo was fun for a while, but he hit the wall. We used him up during his prime years and moved on to the next young thing, who turned out to be an unappreciative, gold digging thot who was convinced by their family they could do better. It happens. You just have to keep moving on until you find the right one.

Never "hated" on either or any active Knick player I recall -- maybe Putzingis at the end and Noah after the fact. Melo was a very talented disappointment we gave up a fair amount for. I feel if he worked as hard as Randle he could have been the player we wanted him to be. And perhaps made some effort on defense. He was pretty much a good citizen though not exhibiting some of Randle's issues. Randle has an opportunity to turn it around though.

Lol. "The player we wanted him to be" He is going to be a HOFamer. One of the all time best scorers. Yet "he didn't work as hard as Randle"?
But sure, I agree, he was not the player Knick fans wanted him to be. A guy that can single handedly take a team to the finals regardless of who else was on his "team". Not that TEAM is very important. And a player that can lead the team in scoring, rebounding, assists (which he did) and also stop the other team on defense.

Ah NY fans. They don't expect much.

I think the fans wanted Melo to put more effort at defense and not just ISO-scoring. HOF or not - it's likely a contributing reason to why the teams he played on never ascended to the top. And while he was one of the best scorers in the history of the game - he was on the decline after the Lin years and really didn't offer much but moderately efficient ISO-scoring. He could not take a team single-handedly or with help when he was with the Knicks. He actually didn't even do that in his prime years with Denver - and he had Billups, Iverson, KMart, Camby, Nene and a lot of other good/supporting players. He did get close one year and ran up against Kobe and the Lakers. Believe G. Karl said that was Melo at his most self-less after that season.

Knicks fans (myself included) can ask for too much, but most of us just want sustained effort on both sides of the ball. We can live with imperfections, limitations and the outcome - just play your ass off, limit the complaining/whining and hustle. That's why we all loved Starks, Spree, Oakley, Pat, Charlie Ward, Kurt Thomas and a hundred other old Knicks that had many flaws... they all bust their butt consistently and earned respect.

Bottom line is you really can't have your highest paid and most accomplished player only play one side of the ball and expect to make the Finals. Let's hope if Randle is back he puts his head down and focuses on the future (not last season) and regaining his respect.

Yeah you heard me right. High expectations. Don't think that was just because I am (we are) a NY fan(s). We were getting a super star that we wanted to be our Lebron and carry the team on his back. Gave up a pretty fair amount of assets (I said fair) in the process. One of the picks is Tracy Murray who though coming off an injury is a point guard we could sure use. And of course it is only a "NY fan's" observation that he didn't work as hard as Randle. I could be wrong but it seemed to me he was never in the greatest shape. And as stated elsewhere he didn't seem to care about defense all that much. A common complaint might be not adjusting his game to best benefit the team. I'd say he is certainly the superior player to Randle, but I am rooting for Randle now because he is on the current team.

As you may have read I said I never hated on Melo. I liked him. I am expressing disappointment. Is that really so extreme to you?

Extreme? Nah. Not saying what you said implies you hate Melo. Only posted that imo you had unrealistic expectations. You expected an LBJ type game from Melo?
As implied in my post, even a superstar like LBJ had Irving, Bosh and Wade. Ie. Help. What All Star was Melo paired up with? How good were the players on his roster? All variables i do not think are taken into account when making statements like "he was not who we wanted to be". Posted why it's hard to agree with "he did not work as hard as Randle" considering he will be in the HOF? Pretty sure that takes lot of work.

As for the Ole "fair amount of assets". It was easy for some to say we gave up too much at the time but that argument has been laid to rest as most of those assets proved to be average and quickly fizzled out. Would love to have Murray but your assuming that is who the Knicks would have picked.

As always Melo is a polorizing figure. Never thought he was perfect but sure as hell loved watching him ball. Especially after so many years of the Knicks being a joke. IMO, the unrealistic expectations led to many fans not appreciating what he gave us.
