Slow release on that jumper. Clear sign of a weakest I read about him which is his jumper. Haven’t watched him play consistently but if you notice his speed and movement on those dribble moves compared to his set shot that’s not game speed but remind me of JA set shot from Memphis. With JA athleticism. I think he’s going to have a promising career on the right team.

I think Banchero is the safest, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I can understand why teams, including the Knicks, are enamored. He's going to need time and structure. He doesn't see the floor well and will have to grow. Right now, he's like Gilbert arenas w/o the jumper.

I know the price will be high, can you see Ja in him? Is he worth the price to move up? Is sending 2 additional 1st with the 11th and a young player like Cam, Deuce or even Grimes be worth it if the knicks can finally have their own "Ja" or "Garland"? Or should the Knicks be better off settling with D'Angelo Russel or Sexton? Can Ivey be the FO's offseason big move?

If the knicks trade up and get Ivey and resign Mitch and call it an offseason will that be enough to push the knicks back in the playoffs?

I would really love it. There would be a ton of pressure on him but look at this mans physical ability
Donovan Mitchell/ja morant.

I would like this front office to finally swing BIG and pull the trigger on Ivey. This front office is putting too mny eggs on waiting for a disgruntled superstar to ask a trade. Somehow there are more teams more attractive than the knicks. Somehow there are more teams that can outbid the knicks. If the opportunity presents itself, somehow its still out of the Knick's hand. If they do their homework on Ivey and if they deem him as a superstar i hope they do whatever it takes to move up and draft this kid. Surprise knicks fans in a pleasant way for once. 😜

The cavs found 2 good PGs in consecutive drafts. Can the knicks finally get this one, Ivey.

The flip side is he could be an athletic role players. JR Smith or isiah rider………I mean he has nba athleticism already but does he have nba level IQ probably not. His athleticism alone will not be enough to become an nba star. And how far away is he as far as his mental approach and work ethic? We do this every year and give players their flowers too early. He has a lot to work on to be another Ja or Mitchell. He’s athletic like them definitely.

Those guys was placed in the ideal situation where it was their team and the offense ran thru them. He could be in a Spur system (or any team oriented structure and not iso ball system) and look totally different. Or in a Thibs offense that (in my opinion I’m sure nolad will disagree) has less structure and all about feel and trying to keep a certain tempo but really let the ball handlers create for themselves or others. On top of that we already have other players that do the same thing and weak at shooting 3s in RJ and Randle who happens to control the offensive more than any other player on the team. Now we adding the same type but as a PG on steroids as far as athleticism I get it. Certain team environments or structure or lack of structure can hurt players from reaching their ceiling or potential.

With that said, the positives in this situation and superstar potential out weighs his negatives. And he’s built to carry that load of expectations with his athleticism assuming when he gets stronger. But even s solid 1b guy is great to add to this young core (regardless if he’s s superstar) One dunk and the crowd will feed his confidence and he might just explode as a top rookie in this class, if he’s consistent and hangs with RJ and IQ and Grimes. We have solid character players on this team already. Listening to locked in radio and everybody agreed that he’s 1 of the top 4 potential superstar players in the draft, so why not? We need that star player or players. Him and RJ can grow together in a mentor mentee relationship. Plus we need a PG…..even though hes more combo guard. But him and RJ playing downhill with Sims looking for lobs. IQ and Deuce off the bench. It will be a fun season to watch.

If Knicks scouts thought that Ivey had ceiling near Mtichell/Ja, would you entertain RJ for Ivey?

Well you buy time on having to pay- if I am keeping 11 and just straight up trading RJ for the 4th pick/Ivey - then yes, I think it makes sense to do that and add 2 young potential players.

From a Hinkie standpoint, RJ seems to be far away from being able to get us to the Finals like Tatum has for Boston. Reset and roll the dice again.

Would have to say yes if he is projected to be that good. We do have Grimes, Cam and the wing we would select at #11 (eg J.Davis) so that would ease the pain of trading our best young player. Grimes seems like he would slot perfectly next to him.

I'll remain consistent on my view of Ivey. I've watched a lot of him at Purdue. To me his NBA comparable is De'Aaron Fox (with less assists) and not Ja Morant or Mitchell. Ivey has superior speed and is extremely athletic. But he has yet to show he can shoot with any consistency/efficiency nor does he see the floor as a polished point guard. So the question for me is would you trade RJ straight up for D. Fox? RJ has his flaws but is still developing, so I say no.

No way Daron Fox. Ivey is not even a PG. Hes much more like D Mitchell who also could not shoot as a junior in college. Ended up pretty good? Im not sure Id be willing to trade RJ for him unless the Knicks scouts are very close to agreement we should. Ivey will be better in the pros because he has major tier 1 athletic ability with full body control and handle.

I'm still trying to figure out what RJ is really good at that he would be a long term worthwhile investment.

I get the marketing aspect of him but as a raw player, what are you getting besides volume so far? He eats minutes, he is high volume on not very good shooting %, I am not convinced of him as a defender.

I think he may end up as jack of all trades - master of none kind of player. Super solid and can definitely be a key piece on a championship team. He has the mental makeup and his game will age well since he's crafty, strong and doesn't rely on athleticism. He has also show a willingness to step up and take clutch shots - obviously he needs to shoot better for this to pay off but good that's asserting himself as a young player.

He is limited athletically and needs to get back to (at least) last season's efficiency to be that player we keep/factor into our roster construction. I do think he will play better without Randle and increasing the game pace/tempo with guys like IQ and Obi. Next season will likely answer what many of us wonder about - is RJ a perfect complement to our A level player... more then that or less? Randle was also inefficient and impacted spacing so think pairing RJ with another uptempo athletic wing would be a better fit to bring out RJ's strengths (eg trasition, less spot up shooting).

He definitely is strong and hopefully he figures out how to use that to his advantage. I don't find RJ very crafty at ALL, in fact, the opposite. Not a natural passer, not crafty around the rim, not crafty in the mid range (those push shots are embarrassing).

For me, I'd love for the Knicks to trade and get value for Randle, just don't like him as a base player. I love RJ with the young kids but pretty soon he'll be in the $25M range and that's a whole lotta difference than just being a 22yo with 3 years under his belt trying to figure things out.

Interesting take on his crafty ability or lack of... his push shots are painful to watch for certain. I've been at the point with Randle where I would take Westbrook for one season (if we couldn't find a better deal) just to get him off the roster so Thibs has to change course and play the youths. I know we would take our lumps but when you know someone is not the guy - there's little point in entering another season with him since Thibs will keep him in that iso-dominant position (which is bad for team ball, chemistry, etc). Us Knick fans need a small dose of hope every offseason - entering next season without Randle is mine.
