Not awful like in the past but below par.

Right now we could have BOTH Desmond bane and ayo dosumno. I don’t want to hear 30 other teams passed on them. They were picked DIRECTLY after we made picks and they Were BOTH bigger players in positions of need.

We need a 3 point shooter so some idiot with ties to Kentucky takes the lower threshold 6-3 190 Quickley over the 6-5 220 pound athletic bane. Same thing again with pgs— we have a chance to finally get a big athletic pg and we don’t. But Chicago does and he’s done an incredible job STARTING for the bulls while ball is out. We’ve had 6 picks in 3 years and we have a few good games from Grimes. Wrong coach and too many ****ing mistakes in the draft by whoever is making the choices. Add in sht free agents and wala

Isn't it too early for this? I don't mean the day, but in general? Come back in another two years with this take

I don't think it's fair, several months after the draft, once surprise players have had breakout seasons, to retrospectively say "Why didn't we draft them?" it's not a science. I'll give them the pass on those two. The one that's unforgivable is Obi over Haliburton. Haliburton was a position of need, had awesome advance stats and was well regarded. Instead we picked Obi, who played the same position as our most significant player at the time and never projected to be particularly great. I still don't understand the logic- he wasn't a Thibs style player and you didn't even clear out a space for him. It really does seem like the main reason we drafted him was due to his links with Leon Rose's son, which is pathetic.

doesn't matter, Brock Aller is going to have Leon trade the pick for a 2nd rounder in 2037 and an option to swap second rounders in 2239

Bane is really good. He was also an older rookie. He was last year to what Duarte is this year. If you want to draft 23-24 year old rookies in hope of that instant contribution than that’s what you do. Seems like Grimes could be the next Bane though right ?

Yep I think they have done pretty well with the later picks. The fact they keep whiffing on the lottery picks is why this team sucks. Not getting Donovan Mitchell, not taking anyone over Kevin Knox, and passing on Haliburton. It seems like the Knicks Front office has 2 very different visions on how this team will be constructed and because of that, they are doomed to fail.

Different front offices unless you think Dolan has been making the picks all these years.

The draft failure isn’t a failure it a Knicks problem. They are not good at developing players. Whatever Quickly did last year is a result of his college teachings. Same with Grimes he is basically doing what he learned in college. Next year there will be a huge drop off because the Knicks will be teaching them and are in their ears. If the aknicks drafted Halliburton I guarantee he wouldn’t have developed the way he has. The lack of opportunity due to coaches decisions is one of the biggest deterrent to player growth.

That is right. But a coach that doesn’t play Jordan would have been a fool. There is a reason why they are drafted high and get playing time right away. The opportunity to play is half the battle with the Knicks for players that are drafted high. How many players have the Knicks made great.

Pat Riley made Starks and Mason

Thibs is benching McBride so we can watch Burks stink it up at pg 40 minutes a night

The thinking with the Obi pick was the team was looking to move Randle at the time before Randle had his Allstar season. Toppin has potential to be a starter and there were questions as to rather Haliburton’s game and funky shot would translate in the NBA.

Quickley was a solid pick, and Grimes looks like a future starter. Hopefully, we can target and find a solid PG or SF in this year’s draft but overall I think the Knicks have drafted decently. No team is perfect at drafting.

this. overall terrible player development. Grimes could be great. Quick has been stuck. Obi should be better by now, and Sims should be incredible right now with his hops - he should be a defensive monster. Why play the old man Taj when he is not the future? Taj Gibson should be teaching the young guys in practice and coaching them on the floor during games when the young guys are getting burn. Development is the only way.

McBride should be getting 10 minutes per game.

Why does Thibs play players out of position? Quick and Burks? Quick should be benched and Burks should be played at SG exclusively. Repeating the same losing strategy over and over again and expecting different results is insanity.

“The people making the picks”……….

Time to blow up the front office again. We not happy when we lose and then we do the hindsight find. Better player after the one we pick and lament.

It's interesting that people only focus on the players we missed and not on the players we didn't miss. The draft is and always will be a crap shoot.

We’ve had a lot of picks in the last twenty years but we never got lucky enough I guess. Kp was closest we got to real franchise changer. It was a great pick even though it ended badly. I also like the mitch Robinson 2 Nd rd pick even though he’s still raw. Other than that it’s been eh for 20 years.
