Click bait media rage grower Berman no doubt plants the seeds of rage that Knicks would be guilty of “malpractice” if we let him. subtle he is and most of us get on board with it. Get all mad something and get the Rage of Blame going.

We could not find a suitable trade but his value is limited he is unrestricted and perhaps his agent not willing to commit if traded to number after his rights expand.

Before we indict the team its obvious the knicks like him but he is injury prone, and is really coming on quite good but is this a contract year push type thing? In nearly 4 years the team knows his soul.

The risk is signing him to more than the 55mil over 4 years and then he levels off or falls back.
That we cannot see the draft, or who replaces him makes it hard for the fan to see a different path.

We know we can lose with him. Despite his good numbers he does not move the dial. His game is athletically based then fundamentals and when he can’t dominate physically he does little else. Passing? Shooting? Not very well.
This is were being a GM gets hard. What to do or not to do?

Will stick this in here.

Looking at the Magic's situation. Mo Bamba will be very much in play this offseason. They are paying Isaac(PF) who will eventually come back & Wendall Carter(C). Bamba is a RFA and is due a raise. Magic will also net a top 3-5 draft pick where more cost effective stud bigs like Holmgren, Smith, Plancharo will be.

Knicks current draft pick wherever it may fall would make sense for Orlando in working out a deal. Not 100% sure how to gage the value of say #10 draft pick for Bamba. Bamba's stretch ability, shot blocking and potential is a nice fit for Randle.

To add. A deal for Brunson could possibly be worked out with Dallas using Mitch(S&T) as this would fit the needs of both teams.

Coming away with Brunson & Bamba would be a very very solid offseason with pieces that fit and can grow together. Potential lineup of Brunson, RJ, Reddish, Randle, Bamba

except Bamba isnt good... and Mitch is good. Constant lob threat (not a great hit w/ Randle), can defend the whole court, elite rim protection, rebounding is great and getting better. His health record isnt good and he may have some maturity issues but also seemed to be liked by the staff etc.

Mitch is going command Capella type money (5/$90mm) and he's right to do so and we would be stupid not to match that. He's a really impactful player when he's healthy. None of his injuries are repeating and he's explosive. His impact on the game is really positive and easy to see.

Would have no issue keeping him, but if he could net us Brunson id do it.

Believe every player should be shopped at tradeline. Especially one that is a UFA in the summer. Feel that if the Knicks were not prepared to offer Mitch what his probable market rate is going to be, they would have traded him for what ever they could get in return. The alleged deal offered to the Pistons is probably Berman's guess. As is the notion donuts are a part of a nutritious breakfast. But something like this makes sense. The Knicks may have considering a deal in which they are given a good young prospect and draft picks over paying Mitch a market deal despite some of his known issues. Seems like that did not happen and Knicks chose the possibility of the latter.

I dont think I would extend Mitch to a new contract. Too injury prone and when he looks like the Mitch we were waiting for, something happens. This has been going on for 3 yrs now.. . You give him that 4 yr deal, he'll be playing a total of 40 games during those 4 yrs. Time to search for another Center that cant play D and stretch the floor with his shooting. No to Brunson!! He's looking for a pay day and when he gets it, he'll fall back in terms of his game. If we can get Dejounte Murray from the Spurs if available, you do what you can to acquire him. Only if he's available this summer..

Who really is Jeremy Cohen? The guy that hangs with Macri? Why do we put so much weight on bloggers who have no ties to the team in any capacity either by credentialed or just able to hustle and build a cred?
We repost this stuff frequently and it adds some kind of cred. tommy Beer? This guy is cited frequently.

Knicks obviously did not want to extend him or Mitch wanted more. Maybe both agreed to wait until the end of the seaosn.
Knicks media will paint as a negative to the team. As usually it does.

There is a certain amount of money you pay a player and if he can’t be on the floor during crunch time becuase he is a free throw liablity then its kind of obvious he can’t get starter money. If mitch wants that, ok!

Im on the fence but fully prepared to let him walk and join ever team that once in a while lets a guy walk that is signable.

In this particular case we didn't need to, it's just good logic with zero insider insight

I would sign and trade him, I like him but he is too injury prone and he hasn’t developed his offensive game at all. I don’t feel comfortable giving him the money he’s looking for.

Interesting, why do you believe so? He has been pretty consistent with what he does over his 4yr career, and was known as a grinder since Villanova days. Isn't like a random spike in production.

Looking deeper into Murray there seems to be some risk with a move like that. He would cost a lot & analytically there is some to be desired. Holds low TS%, low WS48 until this season. This season is the first time in his career he is holding a higher offensive rating than defensive. Main issue though is the lack of efficient 3pt shooting. So what would the cost be and would it be plug and play off and running which is what we would want for the price paid? Or would his game conflict with the other pieces since 3pt shooting is already an issue?

For Brunson, I think a Gary Trent Jr contract would make sense for both parties. 3yrs 16,17.2,18.5mil per with the last yr PO.

so for the "he's too injury prone" etc crowd that doesnt want to pay him what's your alternate?

Bottom line is impact talent is hard to find.. and when Mitch is healthy he's impact. He's 23. If you want to chill around 35-40 wins the way to make sure is by not taking any risks if/when high end talent comes your way.

And please dont say Mitch isnt good on offense then say we need Myles Turner

I'm not giving Mitch $90M with his durability issues. Makes no sense to commit that much long term when we still are a 30 win team. Would prefer to use that money on a more important position and a better more durable player. I'm only bringing him back if he comes back dirt cheap. Likely won't happen so let's do a S&T. We can always draft a C (Jalen Duran?) with our pick.

if the goal is to stay a 30 win team then yeah... we can always draft a center. Who's the more durable better NBA center you have your eye on?

So we still have PG issues and now we lost our most eff% scorer, rim protector and best defensive player. How does that get us better? Also Mitch is 23. Last point is YOU are not paying, Dolan and the Knicks are. Just sayin

I’d rather draft a center. And go with Noel and a rookie center personally.
Walker Kessler is one I like, there are a lot of big man prospects in the 1st of this years draft.
This would be the perfect year to buy a late first round pick.

Look all of the above comments are mostly true about Mitch - his durability, limited shooting, etc... what I think we need to remember is that what's he accomplished was done without a PG and I suspect a solid PG would really enhance Mitch's strengths (eg lobs) much like Capella does with Atlanta. Also, not knowing Randle's future might shift his primary weakness (can't shoot) if an offseason move is made.

I think we should pay fair market value and slightly above to keep him. Only way I'd let him walk is if he receives an insane offer from another team.

It's ashame we'll never get to witness Mitchell Robinson as a Knicks Center while playing alongside of an elite PG.

He's my favorite Knicks Center since dating back to #33 but don't worry...

He'll leave NY for a team with an elite PG and become a perennial All-Star Center because of it.

If New York loses Mitchell Robinson? The Knicks failed him.

I can see the Knicks not given Mitch the extension now so they can maintain his small cap hold, clear necessary cap room to get the PG they want, then resigning Mitch for slightly above his current max extension-eligible rate.
