Why is the Garden the “Mecca” of basketball again? As I said two weeks ago, Knick fans booed the performance, not the man. Same for Westbrook. When they took him out the played much better. Lebron and AD were fantastic BtW.
Because most of the “chips” were won at the LA Forum and the Boston Garden
Interesting answer. Really its that MSG hosted the NIT for years and used to bring in College powerhouse games for NYC and draw crowds/media in a time college ball was bigger than NBA.
Those days are long.
Also you had NYU, St Johns, and other small schools were relevant.
Then you had the Rucker in the summer. Now players live in california and train out there.
Then you had the celebrated “NYC Point Guard” thing with HS chips played in MSG. Tiny Archibald, Kenny smith, Pearl Washington, Phil Ford, Kenny Anderson and many others. Seems Marbury was about the last star to come out and seemingly the hype was greater then the output for many of those players.
