Knicks are in a tough spot because Mitch is playing well and is worth not losing this summer, but also isn’t an ideal fit with our best players. The popular solution has always been to move on and acquire Myles Turner, who is young and offers the rim protection but more versatility on offense. But we also have to take into account the injuries and price to trade for him.

There is an alternative I see that’s very realistic here. Sign Mitch to the extension and use our draft pick in the 10-15 range on Walker Kessler. Kessler is the best player on the best team in the country and the most dominant rim protector in the country by far. He also not a stiff and offers some upside as a perimeter threat. In an nba where a player of his skillset is unlikely to be a top 10 pick, he offers huge value in the teens. He can be a Myles Turner type player at his best.

Robinson, Kessler and Sims as the third string can offer a nice long term fixture for the center position. Kessler and Robinson splitting the center position gives 48 mins of elite rim protection but Kessler gives a different look offensively, as opposed to Noel right now. Kessler can develop at his own pace with the hope that he can provide more spacing for Randle and Barrett to thrive in with the starting rotation. Having a rim runner like Mitch is great. He dominates at what he does best. But there’s a ceiling on an offense with him as a starter. Kessler offers a nice compliment and is both a scheme fit for Thibs and a nice supporting piece for Barrett/Randle to open up the lane as long as his shooting comes along.

Extend Mitch and pair him with Kessler to offset his limitations. That is exactly what I’m proposing.

Or move on from Randle and it's no longer that vital that Mitch becomes a stretch 5. He can play the role of Capella as a rim-running, defensive freak for us. Mitch is still young so it's not impossible to think he can't still develop some. I've noticed he's made a few drives/cuts to the basket vs passing out when he grabs a rebound.

It’s always vital to have a versatile center. Otherwise your offensive ceiling is capped. Look at Utah. Gobert is 10x the player Mitch will ever be and they run into the same problems every season. Not saying you need to move on from Mitch. He’s worth the extension. But you need to pair him with a more versatile center. Even with a team like Memphis, they have Adams who provides the toughness, but the ability to slide Jackson Jr to center for a good portion of the game is key.

Here’s a 7 footer Orlando Robinson but I see him more as the same position we saw jaren Jackson play with the grizzlies. Not a great athlete or shot blocker but good athlete good defender but has a very high iq and rare assets for a 7 footer. Excellent passer great jump shot out to 3 but also plays well into the post. Excellent in pick n roll. 50-40-80 type from the 4 with passing and good defense. Tgis wouod allow us to run mitch at 5 as is.

Right now where we are drafting I’m looking at what can help make this team BIGGER. More size Shouod equate to better D and more efficient 0.

Key to what? Finishing 12th in the conference. Mitch is a solid player but this team is going nowhere
