Leon,

Last year was pretty great. And then you poked your fingers in the pie and sort of made change for change's sake. Our awful starting five has your fingerprints all over it.

What's the plan here? How are you going to fix this? Like, what the **** would you say you do here?

Thanks,
SC

The major changes....

- Elfrid & Bullock Out - both were free agents so not sure you can actually say that changes were made for change's sake especially since the Knicks were fairly offense limited last year as good as their defense was.

- COVID Shortened season - no fans last year - also played many games/teams that had roster limitations due to the virus

- Randle - has simply been significantly less effective this year - there is no clear way for fans to attribute this directly to Elfrid and Bullock or not.

- Rose injured - IMO significant impact as when he was added to the roster last year the team took off

Not sure what you would expect Leon to say that would make a difference for this season. I'm more interested if he's working on something with other teams or not by the deadline - hopefully involving Randle.

what could he say that wouldn't immediately crimp his ability to negotiate and fix things?

'we're disappointed with Randle' - lessen his value immediately.

'we're going to dump EF & Kemba' - lessen their value immediately.

Hiding in the bowels of the Garden with Julius after games. Once upon a time, Checkettes, Grunwald, hell even Isiah were regulars on WFAN to address the state if the Knicks. Has Leon or Perry sar down for an interview since Leon was hired?

I understand your point but Leon could stand up in front of the microphones and just be accountable. He can talk about how the whole team must be held to account.

He doesn't have to talk about specific moves he's done or may do.

He should say "I'm not going to go into specifics moves we might make or talk about specific players who we are looking at but rest assured I'm looking at every option to improve. It's on me. I have to do better."

Everything in moderation. Even moderation.

I won’t go crazy on Walker and Fournier because we all thought those were good moves at the time. I agree he absolutely has to speak though… not that he would say anything groundbreaking.

Absolutely agree. I don't know if that would help in any way. Could it hurt? Maybe- you do not want to weaken Thibs in any way. I'd also worry about how Randle might take any comments- because while Rose might say nothing/all the right things, just having those questions asked could add to the pressure Randle is feeling.

Who gives a crap what he says in interviews?
You think it's helpful for him to get in front of the mic and say something as banal and meaningless as that? Why? Is that going to pacify you?
Let him do his job. Which is to work the phones and make the team better. Not hold your hand and say I'm sorry.

It's not for me lol. Its for the team. Someone has to be a leader and speak about every player every coach being held to account. We see lack of effort on the court. If the coach won't address the issue (fairly to ALL players) then the GM must. Otherwise Thibs and Randle are gonna keep leaning into being Thibs and Randle.

He gets an F- for missing out on all the game changing FA PGs and getting stuck with midget Kemba Walker on bad knees.

He gets an F- x100 and deserves to be fired for paying Evan Fournier NBA star $$$$ and thinking Evan Fournier could help improve Tom Thibs.

I don’t think anyone thought Fournier at the years and money was a good deal.

Giving Julius the money was insane coming off that playoff series. I can see bringing back Burks and Rose, but everything else was hard to stomach. You can’t sign two injured point guards to multi year deals.

Last night sealed it. Absolutely disgraceful. You gave away an asset for cap space you’re not sure you’re going to use? Pathetic

I don’t care about the interviews, but he’s not making the team better.

That’s the problem with Leon is the combination, he’s complete and utter trash at what he does and he doesn’t take any accountability for it.

SC,
Glad you enjoyed last year. Remember Grimes? Deuce? COY Thibs? I get there and Randle is all NBA? You see what RJ did last year? I mean really see it? EF after January?
Obi flying from the heavens and IQ coming up! Thats on me.
Kemba, Yeah, I messed up. There is context there but I don't have to explain. You saw it was a mistake. Randle? We called Terminex and will be working all summer to get that bug out his ass.
WE got him at a decent price. I mean, you really wanted more of Mook? More rookies? Thibs has all he can handle and they still here. Who else moved up in top 10 last night? Nobody at the 11 would be on the court for a year or two. Randle was given an ultimatum: We waive the trade kicker and we can send you somewhere, or take what happens which is he'll not have the ball as much but will be paid very well to be 3rd option next year. RJ is a stud. Trust me. We'll likely move EF and thus last years FA cap will be ok. Kemba was a mistake. WE respected his optimism and should not have. The Brunsons will be here. Think Jaelen as a Lowrey type. Clutch, gritty, 2nd-3rd option type. Not a star. We have a star. Its RJ. You see that Miami game last year? He got the IT factor.
We going to try for Ayton. WE fed Detroit what they wanted and they will play nice. We can give them Mitch, enough picks to think they Presti, Drose. Fun times.

Love always, Leon

No body but probably you and 1 out of every 200 Knicks fans were happy about the Fournier & Walker signing.
Last year draft I wanted us to trade both picks to move down in the draft, or select SF Jalen Johnson with the 20th pick, and McBride with 21st pick.

I said a million times at the start of last offseason, Knicks first PRIORITY in the FA market are a starter PG (Dinwiddie)! Everyone heard me except Leon/Perry.
What the heck did the Knicks need Fournier for .. when the best 2 consistent winning players in the Knicks starter lineup were Randle & Bullocks.
And 2nd unit D.Rose & Taj Gibson leadership were grooming Quickley, Burks, and Obi Toppin into starters in the 2020-21 season.

I actually started tearing up watching the coverage on SNY Knicks like Wilson at the Lemon Tree Cafe.

I'm with the Strickland podcast people on this- these bball writers genuinely delude themselves into thinking they're Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman holding Nixon to account in All The Presidents men- they actually seem to think they're in politics, upholding the constitution and holding power accountable, and that if only they could ask their insightful, lazer focused questions, Rose would be exposed. In reality, it's basketball and those interviews are boring- the questions are boring and the answers are bland PR lines and then the writers try and stir up drama with the spin they put on them. I'm sure they'd find it easier to write up an article after a Rose press conference, but all these independent fan content creators are making great content all year with little to no access.
