INSIDER: Oct. 23 - Former Nets' star forward Williams, who was acquitted of aggravated manslaughter in the shooting death of a limousine driver, is attempting an NBA comeback.
Nearly three weeks after a Newsday report surfaced that Williams was attempting a comeback with the Mavericks comes news that he actually had a tryout Oct. 21 with the Cavaliers. Williams, 36, reportedly has been working out with such NBA stars as the Clippers' Elton Brand during the summer and reportedly is in great shape.
"He wants to play," coach Paul Silas told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "We worked him out a little bit, and he can still play. He can certainly help somebody."
Silas, who coached Williams as a Nets' assistant in the 1990s, said he did not know if the Cavs are interested.
A jury found Williams not guilty of aggravated manslaughter and nine other charges in the shooting and killing of limousine driver Costas "Gus" Christofi on the night of Feb. 14, 2002. Williams was convicted of hindering apprehension, tampering with witnesses, tampering with evidence and fabricating physical evidence.
Last year, Williams and Christofi's family settled a wrongful death civil lawsuit out of court. Williams was forced into retirement after he broke his leg on April 1, 1999. According to the Oct. 3 Newsday report, Williams has told friends that the insurance on the $86 million contract he signed with the Nets in the 1990s expires soon.
In January, Williams faces a retrial on a reckless manslaughter charge. The jury deadlocked on that in his criminal trial. Williams hopes prosecutors will not pursue that charge, Newsday reported.

Could he possibly be our temporary answer, look at how well ZO is playing for the nets.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

No thanks. Would I like..

Tough guys? yes.
Criminals? perhaps, under the right circumstances.
Murderers? hell no.

This guy falls into the 3rd category. He belongs behind bars. Not on some basketball court.

I'll let a jury that's been presented with evidence determine whether he belongs in category 3

he's guilty of killing a man, that's not in question...he's guilty of being an idiotic moron who was playing around w/a gun where he shouldn't have been, that's not in question...he's guilty of trying to hide the evidence & telling people to lie about what happened...is he a murderer in the literal sense? maybe, maybe not...was O.J. a murderer? you decide...i wouldn't shake the guy's hand if i ever came across him in the street, i can tell you that.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

He has a retrial coming up in January, so any "help" will be very temporary. I really believe he will be convicted this time around. I hope so, at least. I don't think Isiah will pursue him. Isiah likes bad guys, but not this bad.

Better find and later sign Haislip. He is young and with potential. We need to keep acquiring guys like that.

hey, no arguement there. In fairness to JWill off the court where he's the among the world class in terms of insane and scumbag everything I have heard/read indicates he's a good teammate. KVH had his best years with JWill openly guarding his back.

Its a suspect element and it can blow up in your face. Usually its best to just avoid these types of guys if you can.

Im confident that we will acquire one. Maybe not the all-star anyone would want because those are not going to be let free by their teams, but yas a good starter. At PF we will be ok with Sweets in the future and for now Kurt is doing a great job. Is at center that we need a big upgrade and that will come. But making the step of trading for a franchise PG as your first step isn't a bad thing, of course, if you later bring that post presence your team needs.

Hopefully we will acquire a good young center soon...

I'm a big fan of Jayson too.....He was one of my favorite players back when he played. He was born to be famous to with his nutty personality. Sad situation. Regardless of what's happening with his comeback.....Isiah should leave that alone.

Zeke may be looking for bad boys, but not the ones he's seen on cops. We would be better off getting Haislip, as Knicksfan has pointed out, or just wait for another one to become available.
We may be seeing TT or Penny gone by the deadline for a bigman.
