I see some here are in shock because “it’s not clear to them what’s going on with the Knicks”. Knicks aren’t playing particularly well at the moment, that’s a fact, but it’s also a fact that we’re at 10-8 which would be projected for the whole season to be 45 or 46 wins which is realistic for me as well. Now, the fact that some expected a lot over 50 wins, that's another matter. But I never understood what it was based on. Let's go by positions:

PG - definitely got offensive depth by bringing in Kemba, but Kemba is at the moment realistically backup in this league, not to mention how bad he is defensively. Payton was desperate offensively, but he was still a more competent defender (although he wasn't too good either) than Kembe.

Wings - won again in the offensive part (points and creation) with Fournier, but we lost somewhat defensively because Bullock was de facto our main defender in the backcourt. In addition, RJ has not made the step we all hoped for so far, in fact, he looks even a little worse than last season.

PF - Randle had good games this season, but now he is a bit more "unreliable", ie he has a game more often in which he is not "inn" than it was last season. However, it is a good thing that Obi imposes himself and showed that we can definitely count on him.

C - this is perhaps the biggest disappointment because some logic said that with Mitch and Noel, this position should be well covered, at least defensively because neither of them is at least an average offensive player. But it seems like things haven't "clicked" properly yet.

But it should be taken into account, as I have already written, that other teams in the east have strengthened and the competition is stronger than last season. Of course I am not satisfied and I would like us to play better and have more wins, but I want to say that some write as if we entered the season as contenders, so this is now a big disappointment.

I’m pretty sure Rose is aiming for some bigger trade and bringing in a player who would take us to a higher level because I honestly don’t think he believes bringing in Fournier and Kemba is something that would round up and set up this team for the next couple of years.

Rose is definitely waiting for that right trade. Not sure if it will be a center, wing or PG. Kemba is a stopgap and the center position is up in the air. For now the team is better than it’s been in years and they are at least fun to watch with the mixture of vets and youth. There’s upside and flexibility here so Rose will just be patient and strike when the opportunity is there.

Agree with you both. I think the dynamics of the salary cap and how players are sticking with the teams that can extend them to max out salary and THEN forcing/asking for trades made Rose and team fill up the roster the best the could. They are now in wait and see mode. Develop mode. Strike when you can mode.

I am watching the Deandre Ayton and whole Phoenix front office debacle situation - as I am sure the whole league is - and am interested to see how that unfolds. It seems like opportunity.

Deandre and Cameron Johnson for Randle, one of Mitch/Noel, Burks?

Sarver is the majority owner but I believe owns about 30%. If true, he could be bought out. Some teams have large groups of minority owners with the ability to buy another out. While where there is smoke, usually there is fire there is also some like Larry Fitzgerald, NFL great and part owner who has said his dealings with sarver has been good. There are conflicting reports. This is not as clear as the sterling issue. One might even say this could be constructed as a way to exaggerate Sarvers personality and force him out as some conspiracy by one to buy him out? Im just guessing.
As for Ayton, and a trade to Knicks given their front office issues is a long process if that is the reason. Sarver might be the lead on the group. Worst case is they can match any offer he gets or contruct a trade. Really, with Ayton thats not a terrible thing. Im not sure he is a max player, but he is a very very talented young man! This NBA fan has no strong opinion on his value. All I know is they are a top tier team that is a legit contender this season. They are renovating the Arena in PHX and if Sarver is a piece of **** it should not derail them financially as an organization. If anything they are win now and Sarver if bought out gets a big valuation and they continue.
I just don’t see how we really turn our backs on Randle after 10-8 start and start trading him out.
I don’t see how PHX after a run to finals wants to move him when they still control and can match.
How many teams will really be running to pay him?
Does he really solve our issues? Sure, I like him and Obi starting but now the much hyped second unit now loses a big piece.

The problem lies is tweeking the first unit rather than thinking we can simply trade out of this funk. Its fun to think this way but its not likely.

What is great is the rise of OBI and him as a trade asset. Randle as a trade asset is a dick move by us to extend then move him. Does that resinate in the future with us as a destination for potential free agents? Mabye. Is Leon that cut throat to do that to Julius? Personally, as a fan I’d get over it but this is not a video game where you swap out one set of stats for another “1248” style.

Litmus test: if your PHX, you do that trade? My opinion is monty Wiliams, CP3, and Booker are publicly about the team and letting the process play. They also signed with sarver rather recently. When Sterling hit he was suspended rather quickly and I’d say Silver had to act fast to keep the franchise in tact. Silver is taking the tempeture of them. If they were “repulsed” by sarver there could have been a similar “suspension” to ease any tensions. Im not absolving Sarver by any stretch.

wow I was thinking about a Randle/Ayton swap. Moves Obi to 4 full time. Noel is our backup and Mitch is surely included.

Ayton is young and still passive at times - but he has improved a lot after playing with CP3. I think this proposed trade would help both rosters as Phx needs another shot creator as Booker and Paul mostly play from the outside. I would do this deal in a hearbeat, but being realistic - we will probably feel frustrated with Ayton at times because of his on court demeanor and passivity. But if we can keep Noel and Obi plays more - our roster would be much better balanced.
