I see some here are in shock because “it’s not clear to them what’s going on with the Knicks”. Knicks aren’t playing particularly well at the moment, that’s a fact, but it’s also a fact that we’re at 10-8 which would be projected for the whole season to be 45 or 46 wins which is realistic for me as well. Now, the fact that some expected a lot over 50 wins, that's another matter. But I never understood what it was based on. Let's go by positions:
PG - definitely got offensive depth by bringing in Kemba, but Kemba is at the moment realistically backup in this league, not to mention how bad he is defensively. Payton was desperate offensively, but he was still a more competent defender (although he wasn't too good either) than Kembe.
Wings - won again in the offensive part (points and creation) with Fournier, but we lost somewhat defensively because Bullock was de facto our main defender in the backcourt. In addition, RJ has not made the step we all hoped for so far, in fact, he looks even a little worse than last season.
PF - Randle had good games this season, but now he is a bit more "unreliable", ie he has a game more often in which he is not "inn" than it was last season. However, it is a good thing that Obi imposes himself and showed that we can definitely count on him.
C - this is perhaps the biggest disappointment because some logic said that with Mitch and Noel, this position should be well covered, at least defensively because neither of them is at least an average offensive player. But it seems like things haven't "clicked" properly yet.
But it should be taken into account, as I have already written, that other teams in the east have strengthened and the competition is stronger than last season. Of course I am not satisfied and I would like us to play better and have more wins, but I want to say that some write as if we entered the season as contenders, so this is now a big disappointment.
I’m pretty sure Rose is aiming for some bigger trade and bringing in a player who would take us to a higher level because I honestly don’t think he believes bringing in Fournier and Kemba is something that would round up and set up this team for the next couple of years.
