This question has been asked each of the last couple years.

The Knicks have made something of a minor thing of signing players they want to play for their G league team to NBA exhibit 10 deals, which allows the team to pay the player a bonus of $5k to $50k in addition to their G League salary.

They may release a sign a few players (because the roster limit is 20) to get them signed to the Westchester Knicks AND get them the bonus, hence making the Westchester Knicks an attractive option.

Again, you'll likely see a few 'player released-player signed to an exhibit 10 transactions' over the next few days before the roster had to be cut down to 15.
