The problems with Ben Simmons and not having a jump shot are well documented. Now that he cost Philly a chance to advance to the ECF and is refusing to report to training camp how would you handle it?
It's hard to be sympathetic towards him given his salary and what he needs to do. Philly needs to lower their trade demands cause he has been exposed. All the defensive accolades mean nothing if he is afraid to shoot in the clutch.

coach blamed one player and regardless of truth you arent supposed to do that. Then they tried to trade him unsuccessfully. I think Ben should do everything he can to make it as miserable for them as possible. In the corporate world they create a hostile work environment for him. I am not sympathetic in anyway, but they mishandled him and are paying for not because they have a toxic situation.

I am extremely petty and would sit him until the NBA and NBAPA agree to allow me to, not only terminate his contract without penalty but. because of Simmons status in the league, I receive TWO UNCONDITIONAL FIRST ROUND PICKS from whichever teams signs him.

If I am looking at trading him, I am only reaching out to small market teams where I know he has no desire to go to or a legitimate chance to be competitive anytime soon (Minnesota, NO, Memphis)

I'd see if Houston would want him. Or Orlando. Both kinda undesirable places, and both with good trade assets. Or trade to Indy, San Antone or Minny - with mid-rate chips to swap.

The thing is - Philly is not going to get their asking price for him, which may be a game. Ask high, then when you lower it, seems reasonable.

That is kinda an extreme reading of what happened.

Sixers coach Doc Rivers was asked postgame if Ben Simmons can be the point guard on a championship team.

"I don't know the answer to that right now," Rivers said.

He didn't blame Simmons, but yea, he called him out. And deservedly so. And that ain't no lie - can Simmons be the pg of a championship team? Paid like he is, the flaws he has are critical. If he were an air plane, he would never get certified!

I'd tell Ben, stay home, you ain't getting paid!

I've always felt that Derrick White and Dejounte Murray plus draft or rookie compensation is a good deal. The Spurs get a tent pole guy they can build a team around， Ben Simmons gets a team that can build a system around him， Philly gets two guys who can play almost as good defense with better shot making， and the NBA gets a competitive team in San Antonio again.

I think if the idea is that Philly gets to void the contract for two 1st round picks, you would find a lot of teams willing to send out expiring salary and 3 picks. Philly doesn't want Ben to go out like that. Morey sees him as an asset to be auctioned. If Ben is willing to lose 90% of his salary to not go to work what's the problem. That's as much part of his contract as any other part. Considering Cleveland is paying Kevin Love the same amount highlights that the Ben Simmons situation is on Morey and not Simmons. When Simmons went to the Chicago to 'work out' the same weekend as the combine，the writing was on the wall. You better believe plenty of offers floated in to Morey over the month between Philly's season ending and the draft. Morey believed he would get better offers later and held out.

I'm not sure why it's OK for teams to trade players but not OK for players to ask for trades. I could go on a long diatribe about the intrinsic conflict between capital and labor and how are perception of it says more about our subjective view of reality，but I'll save it for the other thread.

We always need a villain. Whose to blame is how we tilt. Ok, morey tried to trade him for Harden, then Simmons took it personal.
Then the team finished 1st, then simmons got called out for his lack of stepping up.
Also, he and embiid are not a good fit.

One part roster constructon.
One part Doc for calling him out.
One part on Morey for not being upfront.
One part of simmons for being a diva.

Plenty of blame to go around. Teams are trying to take advantage of the leverage imbalance. For Philly they need a single player of high caliber to succeed. Since we don’t know all the proposed trades they have refused we can’t really say.
Rumors have indy and Sac as potential trade partner. SAS always tries. I don’t see a multi asset trade given Embiid win now window. Kyrie is a good proposal but he brings another type of headache and is free after this season. Logistics are not logical.
Knicks are not a trading partner for Philly.
Why does a reunion with Jimmy Butler seem logical? Its not. But fun. Miami would be shroud as **** to do that if they think this team can’t can’t win a chip. Butler is entering the breakdown age.

I think Sacramento makes the most sense. You're going to play Sabonis, Turner and Sabonis. Even if you trade Turner, an offense headlines by Sabonis and Simmons would be tough to configure. From Philly's point if view, Lavert is good but he's not reliable physically and does he really help spacing?

Doc's criticism was mild and tepid. I'd hardly consider that a full throated blame on Simmons. IMHO Simmons is overly sensitive and has a flaw in his game that he has to work on.

At this point it's a safe bet that the sixers tried this summer to trade him.

But it wasn't just what the coach said,

His limitations as a shooter require the just-right combination of players placed around him. He’s unreceptive to constructive criticism. Now, it’s becoming increasingly clear how much he wants to be catered to.

Simmons reportedly no longer wants to play with Embiid. Simmons was also reportedly bothered by 76ers coach Doc Rivers saying he didn’t know whether Simmons could be the point guard on a championship team.

Like he just made it that much difficult for any trade because the NBA is all about shooters, high character guys.

players request trades all the time, but it's been very rare that a player just wont show up and give up $8+ million dollars in the process...

They may have to just buy him out

Seems like a three team trade is the Sixers best bet- I think he’d make sense for OKC if they were willing to give up a decent number of their picks, then Morey flips those for the best player he can get or holds on to them until the trade deadline (better than holding Simmons until then as his value will likely depreciate between now and then).

Yeah, a flaw in his game. Like he can't and won't shoot when it matters because he's terrified of being sent to the line to look like a moron who won't bother to learn to shoot a foul shot.

Poor guy making 170 million and gets pissy being called out slightly for pretty much not being able to shoot jumpshots as a professional basketball player. We're not talking about some 7'10" 350 lb physical freak like Muresan or someone who's in the league because he's an immovable force who's not expected to be Steph Curry. This poor corporate cog is a 6'10 PG with skills that would make him an incredible force in the league if we wasn't such a documented, uncoachable ahole.

I'd give the nod to Doc's coaching skills and professionalism over Simmon's petulance.

Seriously, how many threads are we going to have on this douche?

It's more than nice. It's fantastic. Made moreso by the fact that the Knicks are indirectly involved but not as the hapless franchise in either of these two developments

A) the Nets supposedly screwed the Knicks over by getting Kyrie, and they dealt with his drama last year and it's only gotten worse over the offseason.
B) the Hawks beat the Knicks in the playoffs and beat Philly in 7 games to start this Simmons drama. Had we won that series who knows what happens.
