In preseason game 1 he had two nice cuts to the basket for layup. In games 2 and 3 he has done a decent job closing out on shooters. 40% on 3s= 60% on 2s, so taking 3s is probably the best shot for him.

Tim Thomas with his physical stature had all the tools to succeed. His 12 year career was uneven but he had some good years and stretches. He was the 7th pick overall at age 20 but stepped in and did well his rookie year. Then he didn’t. Statistically and looking back this was a guy who really did not love the game or put in the work. He did enough to be a decent player with a decent career. But not up to his expecctatoins.

Knox similar? Seems he is a mixture of coming in the league too young, barley 19 and not having the physical matureity to play with men. That includes his motor. Still? Hard to say. He has also like Frank been a victom of circumstance as having 4 coaches in three seasons and all that went with that. Still on him to satisfy his coach. Thibs then comes in and raises the bar and all in a covid environment unlike any other. but the whole league has to deal with it.
With Bacon lack of sizzle , it appears Knox is in some form of rotation but not in a major role. 5-10 min a game if preseaon is any indication. Im just guessing. He can play his way in or out, for more or less money. He is in control as of now.

Porter was a gamble good team can take.
SGA is most regretful.
Mikal Bridges is good, but a 4-5th option on a good team. He’d be behind RJ now.
It sucks. But Randle better than the whole lot. Less regret when you succeed in other places.
Fuck that noise. No need to dwell on Knox. Im rooting for him. One season at at time.

Mikal might be a 4-5th option on O but he is a first option on D to guard any 1-3 on an opposing team while shooting an incredible 42.5% from deep on decent volume and having 64% eFG% who would fit in nicely right next to RJ playing the SF position.

He is a much better, younger version of Bullocks who can put the ball on the floor and who Thibs would have loved.

I remember that draft well and I definitely wanted the Knicks to draft Mikal Bridges over Knox. Mikal was a proven winner. Then Summer league came and Knox looked like a future All-Star. Unfortunately, his defense has only gotten marginally better, and he never developed the handles needed to consistently create off the dribble. I think if he got on a team that gave him 25 mins a game, he could still turn his career around but there is no way the Knicks resign him.

Trust the Process

I wanted us to take him. But think of the circumstances and his game. We had Frank. We draft Rj, think we keep him? His game came together the last season. He three years older than Knox. Maybe Knicks get patience still?

The circumstances were that Mikal was coming off of an NCAA championship and was a starter and integral part of that team. He plays SF and shoots from distance AND plays defense.

Frank was kinda sort slotted at PG.

RJ was drafted in the year AFTER Mikal/Knox.

Guys like MDA/Fiz should never have say in drafts.

Both Knicks and PHX came together last season so the story might have unfolded differently. Bridges had great pedigree, but he blossoms when Paul ties it together.
Would knox have survived/ done well Suns if he was taken there? Since it did not happen, we assume it does not. Same for Bridges, he succeeds, we think that would have here? Thats my point. Its not so clear.
NO proof other than Bridges starts on a team that went to the finals. My argument is not strong, its only a thought that not everything is linear.

This rationale for not picking Mikal is just lame. What on earth does Randie have to do with totally whiffing on the pick. Then followed by trite garbage. One season at a time? Wtf does that mean? There's only one first round pick per season and Knicks blew two in a row.

What makes the SGA thing even more maddening is that On the Strick.land podcast they've said we didn't even give SGA a workout- he was withholding doing workouts for nearly every team, but wanted to do one for the Knicks, think they said his college coach was even begging them to work him out but Mills and co decided they'd pass

HIndsight about the player is one thing. THe scenario by we assume the player reacts the same despite being on a different team/coach/players/etc is not so clear.
Its abstract to consider the myriad circumstances that help one player and not another. One can only wonder. Thats All im insinuating. IM just looking back on Bridges career and the rosters he endured and think his outcome on the knicks might not be so clear. Thats all. Obviously in time the kid did fine to earn a 4 year 90 mil contract and is a solid starter with defensive chops.
Funny, SGA coach is Calipari as was Knox’s. Kevin was the youngest drafted that year and labled a project. It was a reach. Now 3 years later Knicks appear to have given him the latitude for one more run for minutes.
And Maybe our patience will be rewarded.

Another way of looking at it is at least the Knicks didn't pass up Doncic for Marvel Bagley, or a least the Knicks didn't make the sam mistake with the 6th, 7th or 8th pick.

Because that's just how I do...
