On first glance he played ok for a first time player.( rookie in first game)

But
I think he needs a lot of work
His defensive awareness at times is off.He is trying to be responsible for his man but he also has to track the ball. If u don’t track the ball help defense will be sup par. He also did ok on offense — he needs to be a little more decisive and be willing to take a five footer when he’s down low too. Also needs side work catching the ball/ hand work

I think he needs to watch film on how taj Gibson sets up picks. He was good in sl with solid picks but last night he was all over the place.

Some good things some not so good things— that’s a rookie. I just hope he can understand game awareness soon. I think it’s possible he can help out while mitch is down. He’s good enough to play that role BUT he’s gotta improve over the exhibition season.

For where we got him in the draft, he is perfect, and in the perfect situation.

Learn from Taj, watch Noel and Mitch. Hoping he gets tons of burn in the GLeague this year and just absorbs his time with the main team too.

He is a couple years out and the Knicks have that luxury

I hope they send Sims to the G league. He definitely needs more development. I hope the team does not just have him on the bench all year. I would send him to the G league for 2-3 months and then bring him back to the main team around February. Unfortunately, with Mitch still not available, the Knicks may keep Sims on the main team for awhile.

Man, I had to look up when the GLeague started etc and found this, didn't know about it.

https://therookiewire.usatoday.com/2021/09/14/nba-g-league-2021-22-season-format/

On Tuesday, the NBA G League announced a new innovative format to its 2021-22 season structure featuring a 36-game regular season and an expanded Showcase Cup.

The 30 teams will begin the season with a 14-game tournament starting on Nov. 5. The teams will be split into four regional groups and play 12 intragroup games in their home markets.

The four teams with the top winning percentages from each group, along with the next-best four teams, will advance to the single-elimination tournament to determine the winner of the Showcase Cup. The champions will receive a trophy and monetary prize.

Following the Showcase Cup, team records will reset and the 36-game regular season will tip off on Monday, Dec. 27. The top six teams in each conference will qualify for the playoffs in a traditional format, set to begin in April 2022.

The showcase will include the debut of Capitanes de la Ciudad de México. The team will be based in Fort Worth, Texas, and play all of its games on the road in the Showcase Cup due to travel restrictions surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.

Normal gleague was 50 games, so this keeps it in line with the past. NBA is trying to figure out some kind of mid season or preseason event that would draw interest.
I would imagine soccer in europe has forms of tournaments that does this?

I like the idea of a preseason tournament that would ensure a playoff birth. A team could then build its season around that and perhaps handle in season trades, injuries,, development with an advantage to that end. Its a mere concept. Incentives would vary. Could it be a salary cap gain? Extra 2nd round draft pick? Money? Home court advantage in some fashion?
Many holes to it really. All star game is boring now in the days of cable. Back in the day there was only one national game on and it was the high profile teams. As a kid we read about this guy with a crazy stare named “Sidney Wicks” who out of UCLA played for POrtland but they were a recent expansion team, out west. Knicks played them once, likely on channel 9 at 10:30pm mid week and then once at home. Same for Seattle and young Spencer Haywood, and the legendary Connie Hawkins on PHX. Home games back in the day were NOT televised. Wicks was a 4 time allstar in his first 4 years. To see him in an allstar game as a fan was an event. Now, there are numerous national games on west coast televised! This is one reason Allstar games are non events in this era.

He played amazing for a 58th pick. He looks like he can contribute right away. He will have mistakes because he is a rookie. Just like Obi by the end of the year he will be able to help us out big time if we get hit by injuries like we did last year.

Is it too much to ask the Garden if everytime he gets a turnover or foul they cut to the clip of him stepping on a rake? Clearly that's the look he's going for. After dunks could be the finale of the HMS Pinafore.

The third-to-last player selected in the draft, a big man, needs development in his first preseason game.

In other news, it's October.

Film at 11.

Amazing may be a bit much. I was surprised his overall motor and reaction just didn't seem to be there most of the time. Maybe Thibs is telling him off the bat not to be overly aggressive and get in foul trouble? I would have liked to see him challenge/change some shots rather than just stand flat footed and watch.

These things take time.

my guess is he is teaching "let the game come to him" and "don't foul out in 5min"........In fact, could be they are ocnfident in what they have and don't want him to spazz out so fast trying to get up to speed.
Just guessing. Mitch kind of tried to get everything and it both wears you out and puts you out of position. These guys will make mistakes. IF its in your head it will be worse. Learn, rinse, DON"T repeat.

My guess is Knicks hope Sims can back up Norlens and mitch gets resigned and perhaps traded. Thats fine, we grew an asset and got something in return. If Mitch is deemed an injury risk we could let him walk but that means his trade value was not there. Shyt happens, players get hurt and it devalues their contracts or trade value. Win some, lose some.

Sims will be 23 on the 20th of this month. Mitch won't be 24 until april. They only 6mos apart! Mitch is good, no doubt there. Injury concerns are valid to his foot. Non contact injuries are not good for anyone.
Mitch won't be in tip top shape for some time.

The amazing is relative to draft position. If you get someone who can play in the NBA at all at draft pick 58 you did extremely well. A few years ago I remember seeing the numbers of how many second round picks become productive players in the league and it was shockingly low. The fact that his 1st sniff of real NBA action he got 8pts, 6rbs and 2asts should not be discounted. He made a lot of defensive mistakes and that comes with the territory with rookies. I would also say this is magnified because the center position is especially important for what Thibs likes to do on defense. There is a reason why Thibs always go for a specific type of center. Mitch, Noel and Sims are all a similar architype of center. I won't hold those mistakes against him too much until it becomes a habit and its obvious he is not able to stop them even with more experience. I mean look at the improvements Obi has made in one year. Obi did not even look close to an NBA player at times last year.

Joking aside, his name does sound like it could be a Hasidic Jewish community in upstate NY.

I think Jericho sims can help the parent club. It will be a very small part but he can. You can see where he can. He can set picks hit easy baskets challenge shots and rebound the ball. I think he had an awareness issue the other night. Something I personally think can be fixed quickly with more focus and intensity.

Based on Mitch's health and Noel to a lesser extent and Taj being far along the back 9, Sims could conceivably find himself with the opportunity for playing time.

Exactly. If we're making assessments on one game (which we are) he's got next to nothing offensively but dunks. Like Mitch, he's a physical freak, with possibly even better hops.

No one's asking him to spazz out, or foul out in 5 minutes, just use what you've got. When most of your highlights consist of standing still and watching opponents take mid range jumpers and layups when we've all been staring at vids of balls getting splatted all over Texas for the past year, it's a little deflating. I mean, old man Taj is constantly running and jumping at people and it's only preseason.

Mitch fouled out stupidly, but set NBA records while doing it.

Anyway, I'm confident Sims will develop into the defensive zombie apocalypse we want and need.

How do you quickly fix Focus and intensity “Quickly” without medications?
He needs reps at the pro level to acclimate. HE needs short minutes because fatigue makes humans lose focus. We see him “frozen” at times and think thats a lack of intensity or aggression? Maybe its a player being smart to not try to over compensate which leads to mistakes, fouls, and injuries.

He was taken 58th for a reason and his scouting reports would be a good place to start. Always smart to develop players as a backup and sometimes they rise and exceed draft potential.

One game in his deficiencies were evident. I’m sure our coaches are well aware of them and are happy with some things he did. It’s as his first game at this level. In the garden, all his hopes and dreams of being an NBA player and he made his Broadway debut! What a wonder night for the Sims family!!!!

I hope he is great and makes Mitch obsolete! Not that I dislike Mitch, but if we can’t trade him for value and he walks we have next man up to take his place. Good teams do this. I want us to be a good team. It means we have to cut some loose from time to time.

Holy crap Batman! You actually know when our coaches are happy?

I'm actually hoping, now that you highlight the comparison, that we somehow see both a healthy MitchRob and Sims on the floor at the same time! Opponent pick and rolls beware! Oh the defensive humanity!
