Shame it didn't work out, but risk was minimal.

We have to get down to 15? He stood zero chance.

We had too many guards and he didn’t show anything when he was healthy in SL. Walker, Rose, Quickley, and McBride is really all a team can realistically carry on a roster for PG/combo guard.

He would have likely be very far behind in all his off season work and then getting up tp speed for the NBA and Thibs/Knicks schematics. More than likely this is a mutual ask as he can either go to another team that might be patient or get back to Europe sooner than later.
Its a logical move for both parties.

Realistically, things have changed significantly since Luca signed. At the time, we had Payton who was known not to be here this season and Rose for who we feared he would leave as well.

In other words, we had a potentially big hole in that position. But Rose stayed, Kemba came, and in the draft we also took McBride, who is a type of player Thibs likes. Luca was a low risk high reward, but when it became clear he would not be able to get the chance, he became redundant. Quite expected.

It was the right move for the team. If we play any PGs beyond Walker and Rose, then McBride probably should get those minutes. With Quickley and Burks also able to run the point, keeping Luca made no sense. Plus, he was hurt. I wish him well.

Too bad. I’m not sure we ever saw him truly healthy.

Given the age and injury history of both Walker and Rose, not entirely sure we couldn’t have used him down the line.

The timing of his injury couldn't be any worse, and the 2 guards we drafted who balled out in SL pretty much sealed his fate.

we also have this kid on the back burner

Major injury to either Kemba or Drose will no doubt put the weight on IQ, then McBride. We’ll see how they respond. Could be good, could be not. Vildoza had yet to show in Summerleague and would not have in preseason and thats just what is in front of knicks. Im sure they have contingency plans yet known to us.

Beyond Kemba and Rose (who really could/should(?) take up all 48 minutes), the Knicks have an absurd # of players capable of running the PG spot, certainly in a backup role if not competently as starters

From last year's crew: Quickley, Burks, Randle, RJ.
And adding this year's crew: Fournier, McBride, and perhaps even Grimes.

We have to feel pretty good about Quickley developing a bit in summer league - and also with McBride's showing. McBride, in particular, will probably be groomed first and foremost as a PG.

I wouldn't feel like we've lost too much if Kemba and Rose went down at the same time. With Quickley/McBride, while we lose veteran experience, we also get some high motor youthful energy and aggression.

Was worth a shot, but man he came up lame in the Olympics and pre and prob didn't show enough in camp. He may pop up in the NBA and hit clutch 3's against us in a few years, but regardless it was a worth a shot and a smart use of cap space to take a flyer on someone like this.

It was hard to get a read on Rokas in his limited minutes in SL but he looked like he had potential. It would be awesome if he blows up in Europe. He would be a great trade asset or future insurance if Walker and Rose cannot physically hold up this year.

Good. I'm much higher on Bacon than I ever was on Luca. I think Luca was mainly signed as ballast for a DeRozan sign and trade, since that didn't happen he wasn't a fit. Knicks lack wing defenders outside of RJ,so Bacon has a role he can step into.

Knicks rotation should be:

Kemba/ Rose/ McBride
Fournier/ Quickley/ Grimes
RJ/ Burks/ Bacon
Randle/ Toppin/ Knox
Robinson/ Noel/ Gibson

I think Knox gets traded early on. My guess is he will get some pre season run to showcase and see if he has chemistry on the court. He should have a chance to get some run with a less demanding coach,Cleveland could be a good destination.
