It says in his profile his father played in several countries. Anyone know about this guy? That might explain some of the confidence and toughness... he's been hearing it since he was a kid.

there were a couple of articles over the past week or so that mentioned his father played semi-pro or por ball overseas. Can't remember the details.

articles also mentioned the death of him brother while they all were living/traveling with father.

Is that what you are refering to?

wow... good article. Thanks for the link Rich.

On a separate note this is exactly what I am talking about in terms of NY media. These are the kinds of stories I want to read about in the summer and preseason. NOT Berman, Vescey and Lawrence's crap about some impending Wally trade or how Knick fans dream of Kobe.

Imagine actually writing an article that contains real information. What a breath of fresh air.

Thats awfull about his brother.

That's insane, it would never work!

Take the good witht he bad.

Spree is blaming the media for his current quotes.

If Spree had not learned about how to handle the media, then he deserves all the love he hs been recieving.

Azira is getting all good stuff. Once he is a star, and gets the big money, then "THE MEDIA" can go off on him and blame him for the what ever the knicks woes.

But until then, its a nice story.

There are good kids out there, I hope he keeps it real!

I'm all for giving him the MLE, but after last night, it is clear Ariza will be getting minutes, and in crunch time none the less.
I'm just worried he will get a larger offer than the MLE after next season. That's why we gotta make him feel wanted/needed in this organization now.

well.. the Knicks have an option here. The 2nd round mistake the other teams like GS and Cle made was they let their players play the 2nd year at the option (league min.)
what Dallas did was smart. Rather than save money for one year they didnt pick up Marquis' team option making him a FA. They then signed him using their MLE for 6 years and about $38mm.

This is exactly what we do with Ariza. Its almost impossible to say no if your the player, because you never know how a year will go. Its a choice between making say $4mm next year and having $30mm in the bank over the next 5 years, or making $600k next year with no contract. Ariza would be 26 when a 6 year MLE type deal expired.

If we want him, there is a will, and a way.
