Quiet time in the NBA. Even NBA Front offices need some down time?
What a hoop junkie to do?

1. Caught on Netflix “malice at the Palace” doc. Just a on hour show on it with interviews from key players. In hindisght it looks different. Doesn’t everything? Worth capturing.

2. Ringer podcast, 7 parts on Len Bias. Not just the “what ifs” but the effect on Capital Hill and the laws that followed. Len would be 57 years old now. Nalod saw him play in Chapel Hill his senior year. Post Jordan game. Sat 20th row. He was as advertised. Watching videos now he has the hops of Amare. I can’t speak to his 3 pt range as it was not a thing then but his shot was Durant like. His pull up shot has a bit of Bernard King to it. Not 28 year old Bernard, but for a college kid it was impressive. Good listen if you need some stuff. Simmons “Book of Basketball” series is very good. Im listening to the Rick Barry story.

3. Been watching Succession on HBO. They are all Deplorable but well done. Good looking location of the rich in a soap opera format. “Ted Lasso” on Apple TV. Easy 30 min episodes. Light humor. “Morniing Show” also on Apple with Aniston and Withersppon. Well acted. Good shows were people are not killed and some humor. Life is a bit raw these days.

4. Following the Rachael Nicols thing play itself out. What a mess ESPN created. Personally I think her format/show was getting tired but she had the chops and the cred to carry it. Her comment in my opinon was calling out ESPN’s track record and she was upset they pushed her aside to try to correct it. The optics of that did not look good but that the audio/video of it leaked was as it was awful. Im no legal expert but wonder if she has a legal argument they damaged her. The content was on an ESPN server and someone not authorized leaked it. She basically was saying becuase ESPN ****ed up in the past they were giving her show to someone based on he being black. Not that she was a bad choice or not talented. Not sure in this day and age you can say that not look bad, which is what happened. She looked bad. In a world looking for a “Gotcha” they got her. Maria Taylor left ESPN for NBC, and Nicols is now off air but getting paid. ESPN suffers from ratings decline in part because of cord cutting. They hanged the landscape of TV/sports entertainment. A culture that could do no wrong for years has made many mistakes.

5. NFL. Post Covid world. Post social justice awareness. Will play to full stadiums. No election cycle this year and few major police brutality events. Im not making light light of any of this. Its just football for now.

I have been teaching my daughter and her best friend how to play bball. School is about to start and I am contemplating starting a basketball club for girls after school. Free, of course. It's always fun to try new things and extra exercise is always welcome. Just because our Knicks cannot run proper PnR doesn't make the play any less effective :)

39 days until our first preseason game.

Might have to try and get a PS5.

I try and look on it as there only being a month until training camp. However, I got a PS5 a couple of months ago for times like these! Been catching up on ps4 games mainly, like Assassin's creed Origins (which I liked a lot, which surprised me as the only other Assassin's creed game I'd played was the third one, which I hated so much I never tried another one!)

I've always felt that song was about a confirmed onatist waking up because of a couple in the next room at his hotel.

Saw two Nicolas Cage movies. Saw Pig, which was interesting. Good movie. Didn't live up to the reviews and I wouldn't call it his best performance, but I wouldn't have any problems recommending. Then I saw Jui Jitso, which was so bad that I had fun watching it. About an interstellar conqueror who came to earth centuries ago to teach humans Jui Jitso. Now the alien comes back to earth periodically to challenge Earth's chosen champions in an all out bloodbath with the fate of the world in the balance. I wish I was high when watching this. It would've been even more fun. Oh, Pig is about man who goes all out to get revenge for the kidnapping of his beloved truffle pig. I know it sounds like I'm making these plots up, but I'm not.

Nope! I'm not really a fan of sports games, I prefer games with stories otherwise I get bored quickly

Having a toddler keeps me busy but I tend to fill the Knicks gap this time of year with my fantasy football obsession. August and Sept it’s priority #1 as far as my downtime hobby, whereas the rest of the year it’s Knicks. Obviously Fantasy football goes thru the end of the year but becomes second to the Knicks. We have a league of friends that loosely resembles the show The League. I’m not a video game person really and although my wife tries to get me into some shows, I don’t have the attention span for something slow moving. I prefer just to be outside listening to music on the porch or shooting hoops this time of year.

The NFL coming up definitely helps. There’s also the yankees

Question: if I get the #1 pick who should I go with McCaffrey or Derrick Henry?

You can make an argument for Henry if it’s a standard scoring league (not PPR) meaning no points for pass receptions. Henry still isn’t involved in the passing game much which limits his upside. There’s also concern about some regression as he's been the focal point of the offense that has added some talent at WR (mainly Julio). McCaffrey is going #1 most of the time. Dalvin Cook is going second mostly. I had the second pick and took him. But I had Henry last year and he was great. Take who you enjoy watching/rooting for but McCaffrey and cook are generally considered a tier above.

Yeah, I've seen it. Depressing, but a good movie.

Ha, it is- that episode has messed with my mind now whenever I watch a Nicolas Cage movie- it's like that Schrödinger's cat paradox- you can watch the same film twice and perceive him as both a good and bad actor!
