The 'steal of the draft' stuff has now been co-opted by everyone and has lost all meaning.

Everyone who has a decent summer league game that wasn't a top 4 pick is the steal of the draft.

Knicks have 3 of them ... playing along last year's steal of the draft.

Hawks 2.

Up and down every summer league roster is multiple steals of the draft.

It's officially hackneyed.

I'm just sayin...

Without considering Summer League, just based on the guys I liked early and where they ended up drafted,

Suggs to Orlando is amazing for both Suggs and Orlando. He was going to be sharing minutes with FVV in Toronto. To get to be the face of that franchise in Orlando should be amazing. Any loss of dollars due to draft position should be compensated by the difference in tax rates in Fl/US vs Toronto/Canada

Bouknight dropping seemed odd to me. But now that they cleared Graham out, I wonder if Bouknight will be the beneficiary of those minutes. Seems like a good situation for him to grow with Lamelo.

Moses Moody -- falling to 14. GSW gets great value here, but sucks for Moody unless the W's backcourt gets injured again. Definitely possible, but I find it hard to see him finding his full potential there. Hope Moody doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

J Johnson at 20 is a great pick for ATL. Still has volatility, but the risk reward makes much more sense than in the low teens where he was projecting.

Cam Thomas. Lucky drop for Cam. He should get plenty of minutes even at the end of the bench between injuries, personal days and just garbage minutes.

McBride -- Love the pick where we got him.

Cooper -- Man, that far down in the second round is probably the steal of the draft. A lot of people passed on him. I think he will be hidden behind Lou Williams this year, but damn if he doesn't have a chance to be part of a special team.

Sims. 58. Love love love this pick. Don't want to overstate my expectations. its a 2 way contract. But value vs draft position is exceptionally high.

You know I gonna spin wit it

How much shorter will attention spans get? Are we forever prisoner to the "hot take" and "grading" drafts, free agency, and trades before they have even played out? Or, say, predicting a Suns "sweep" after winning the first two games of the finals? On the surface it's, yes, hackneyed. I would add stupid. And sadly it does seem to affect how some teams are run. But give the people what they want I suppose.

I remember when Landry Fields and Cleanthony Early were steals of the draft. There was also that time, early in the analytics movement, where people were convinced the fat dude from Georgetown was also a steal. Now I'm getting all nostalgic for Maciej Lampe days

Suggs is amazing for Orlando. I’m really surprised he lasted until 5 and especially didn’t go to Cleveland at 3. Mobley can’t just be a Ayton level player. He needs to be a true superstar for it to work. They have their franchise currently built around 2 centers and a wing that can’t shoot or create off the dribble. Suggs would have been a culture changer they badly needed. Bouknight and Cam thomas were both excellent picks for where they went. And I think McBride looks like the best 2nd round pick as a safe role player and rotation staple.

Remember that Lampe was projected top 5 pick and he slipped to 30.
....and his career proved he was picked in the right spot.

Lampe was just one in a long line if insanely overhyped European players nobody ever saw play. After Dirk happened the nba was desperate for the next white hope out of Europe. Darko was the most egregious example of Eurohype but Lampe was too. I guess he fell off a cliff because of horrible pre-draft workouts I don’t know the internet back then wasn’t what it was today

Worse thing to happen to baseball since they caved into public pressure and started demonizing steroid use.

In a vacuum we focus on our team and not the progress of others. Thus we believe the hype until otherwise reality hits. Its rare in fact.

Why does nalod rail against inaccuracies of those who perpetrate narratives unproven? If you read Malcom Gladwell’s “speaking to strangers”, thats a book btw, we learn (its non fiction) people believe what they want to believe.
If I was in a book club (I have been) I’d debate false narratives as well. Its ****ing bullshyt to sit among friends and make **** up. If we don’t stand up and call it out it becomes a sort of “truth” and how can we debate facts if we can’t at least know what we are arguing. How do we have an intelligent conversation if we just let lazy ass posters have their lazy ass opinions but state them as facts?

As for Summer league hype? Its the same as draft night hype. We read our own stuff, and sometimes believe it. LIke “Knicks suck, they could have moved up in the draft”……….. No proof other than reading about attempts but then not knowing what the price was. Fans don’t know the outcome of a player draft night.

Thus we have Kai Jones. A tangible player vs. the unknown Charlotte pick we got in return.
Or Jalen Johnson who fell 19 spots and we could have had him, but instead took the latter mentioned unknown pick.
Truth vs. opinion. Lets use the both but not confuse them.

Shark Jumping our own picks? We are creatures who don’t like future uncertainties. Many of us have anxieties about it. Some of us are better than others, and some use the energy better than others. Can’t say I’m any better or worse at it despite my elitist rankings. Fact is experience teaches us most things we worry about don’t come to fruition.
Like drafting three players and thinking we lay out our future with them. My guess is perhaps one of Sims, “Deuce”, or Grimes will be with us in two years. Why? Its how **** works. My hope? They all evolve to HOF players and we have a three peat dynasty and we never lose to the Nets or Celtics!
Reality? Somewhere in the middle!

Wife used to make Shark meat tacos years ago. High mercury content kind of killed the market and its not a staple at the local store anymore.

It won’t be the steal of the draft until the end of the season, when a player will totally outplay his draft position.

The point of it being tougher this season is true, but mainly because the mess of a draft it was. Not only was it deep, but it still played crazy, so many players will probably outplay their positions.

It’s still nice to come away with talent even with a second round pick, so the legend of the steal of the draft will survive.
